well since i have 2 RC cars (t-maxx and LST) i need a way to get them out to the hill and in the dunes with my Honda 400ex

so i dug out my old little red Wagon
stripped it down to the 'basket' or whatever you would like to call it.

i took the front and rear axles out of my old quarter midget, along with shocks and tie-rods
tires are from a dirt race we did, but never used all the tires.
only thing i made were the shock towers, and brackets that go from left shock tower to right shock tower to give them support.
the springs on the shocks are 105 lbs upfront and 115 lbs in the rear, but i need to put stiffer ones on it, cuz they bottom out when i sit on it. but for the trucks they are a little stiff, need to find some 50-75 lbs springs.

pictures should tell anything else.

only thing left to do is find a way to steer it if someone is sitting in/on it and when im towing it.

if you have ideas to steer...please do tell

well heres the pics

thanks for good comments

also on steering, i might use a windshield wiper motor?

haha nice!

My brother built up a little red wagon for his daughter when they go to the carlise truck shows. It's your standard red wagon box with like a 15'' lift and like mini atv tires. haha it's pretty wild. Has 4 wheel steer too. I'll have to get some pics.

yes i did say it was from a quarter midget but many people dont know what that is. since it is "the best kept secret in racing"

so heres a couple pics to clear things up a bit

I deleted all the stupid posts. You guys need to grow up.

Why would you use a windshield wiper motor for steering? Is there a reason you need it electrical or automated? Why can't you rig up a normal mechanical steering system?

thanks man
didnt want this to become a flame.

and i might make it remote controlled later on so i need a servo (the motor) big enough to turn the wheels.

so far i have a mechanical steering if someone is in it, but if im towing it, it will not turn.

I could draw up an idea for a steering system for towing, but it would require the tie rods to be the exact same length.

thanks

I'm not really sure if this is what you wanted but this is how I would do the steering for towing it behind something?

^^^ That's basically my idea, only I would have drawn it better.

In order to work properly, you need to figure out the distance from the pivot point to the spot where the tie-rods connect to the draw bar. You want the wheels to point the same direction the drawbar is pointing at all times.

If the tie-rods are mounted too far from the pivot point, the wheels will over-steer. If you are ever towing at any speed, it will be really unstable.

If that distance is too small, the wheels won't turn enough. Again, really unstable, because the wheels and traction will want to turn one direction, but the tow bar will be pulling it in a different direction. Because you actually have suspension on it, it will rock back and forth depending on how much traction the rear wheels are getting.

Let me do some calculations, I'll see if I can find the proper distance for you.
