changed my oil for the first time a week or so ago. what do you guys with skid plates do when you change the oil? is there a trick to draining the oil? do you take the skid off first? thanks for the tips

Remove it, only 5 bolts or so and takes a minute. A lot less time than trying to clean up afterwards and better than a large hole that may get caught on something.

would a hole for the oil be a preoblem? i stripped most of the bolts for my skidplates and figured i'd just drill a hole to drain the oil, but if it's gonna get cought, i guess i should drill the bolts out.

On my AC skidplate, they provided a drain hole below the oil tank, but nothing below the left side case drain hole. I went at it with a few drill bits and some files and created a drain hole below it. Easy oil changes and no more mess in the skid plate. If you do happen to splash a little oil on the skid, just spray it down with brake cleaner/carb cleaner to degrease.

^ yeah that's my problem, I have a hole for the tank, just not one on the side.

Skid plates are made from soft aluminum....go at it and make a hole :p

that sucks if the pro armor doesnt have the oil drail holes. My PRM did.

Yeh just drill a hole and it makes clean up a breeze.

I should get round to cutting mine, I think I'll use a 55mm hole saw. It'll half the time of an oil change.

My Cobra USA body skid came with a oil tank drain hole but not a crank case hole so I drilled one out myself and used RTV to seal up the gap between the frame and the skid plate to channel all the oil right to the hole I drilled.
I'm not a fan of pulling the skid plates all the time. Ease of maintnance is what I'm after.

The one on mine has both the oil tank drain hole and the case drain hole. I think it's a PRM. It was on it when I got it.

That's a good idea with the RTV I might try that. You always get a little seepage under that lower frame tube right under the bolt.

this is kind of nasty but it works.
the kids dg fatty was the same deal.
a hole for the tank drain but not the case.
we just pull the tank drain plug, then
when its empty, start the engine for like 10 seconds
and it pumps the crank case into the oil tank where it can drain.
nearly another quart comes out when we do this
