View Full Version : Mod the 250X or swap for a 350X?

Any ideas? I know there is a lot of aftermarket for the 250X, but for the $$$ I could probably just swap in a 350X. Any opinions? Keeping reverse is not that much a deal to me...especially if I can gain a 6th gear with the 350X. So it basically comes down to reliablitliy, and dollars for power.

Which one?

What do you mean alot of mods for a 250x!!! Gosh, I can't seem to find any. Is it a cross-over parts form the 250R?

If you can get a 350X motor then by all means do it..

You have to do some serious modding to you 250X to get that kinda power.. For the 350X if you get crazy, you can make way more power with that.

350X all the way..

PS.. If you find a spares let me know..:devil

Powroll, 4 stroke tech, and a handful of others that I can't recall right now all offer big bore, high comp pistons, stroker's from 280cc to over 400cc. The market is decent. I'm just concerned about reliablity with a 350+cc upgrade and also the intense heat.

But I don't know a whole lot about the 350X other than it's a pretty strong motor. Seems like a ATC350X can outpull a new 400EX. I know in order to get a 250X to match that kinda power it'll need probably a couple grand in mods.....and I just happened to notice that Powroll sells a swap kit (mounts, header pipe, etc...) for a 350X transplant.

but yeah, if I had to work with the 250X it could be pumped up. What stuff are you looking for 2fast? IT's all out there. Rev boxes, carbs, pipes, etc...

And I haven't found a 350X yet (well, maybe I have), but then again I haven't been looking very hard. So I guess depending on the price I find on for will depend on what happens.

Thanks for the input guys.

The other thing with big bore kits are the fact that you have to run race fuel, etc.. Ive pondered doing a bore on mine, but I think Id rather swap if I were going to put that much money in it.

I think Im just going to give the 250X to my wife once I get some bills paid off and buy a newer, faster quad.:D

I'm not so sure about that.....you could be right, but I would think compression ratio has more to do with the fuel and not cc size.

I noticed powroll sells a 352 stroke/bore kit but they don't advertise a comp ratio. If you keep it at 10.5:! that should be higher than stock and keep you running on 93 octane pump gas.

But yes...I would also prefer to keep it on pump gas. And I think 10.75 is the absolute highest you can go on 93.

Micah

P.S. I bought this 250X expecting to keep it for life. There is nothing you can't do with em. Wider, longer, stiffer, higher, faster, etc.... Granted it takes money.

Hold on. 350x motors are hard to find and expensive when you do.By the time you buy a motor, get it into shape, buy the conversion, and spend the hours to do the work you'll be real close to the price of a nice used 400ex. Don't think there's not power in a 250x motor. It just takes some$ and someone who knows what they're doing.

....i had a complete 350x that a guy was willing to give away
if i had been there 3 days earlier.....

i talked to him one night he needed his chain on his 300ex tightend...i came over did it..and asked about his old 350x..he said man if you had been here 3 days ago you'd be loading it up right now...i could have used that whole quad..from the breather tube down to the swingarm and rear shock....

and parted out the rest to get better suspention, and arms...plastic and stuff...

he gave it away to another freind of ours who will probably end up wrecking it and blowing the motor...

..sux to be me..i know..i know.....

Bah, that does suck!

You can find complete running 350Xs for about $1K-1500 just have to be patient in your search, and dont mind driving sometimes.

Who cares what they look like aslong as the motor runs and the swingarm and stuff is in decent shape on them.:D

You just have to have the $1500 first though..;) :macho

Hey there micha. Ya i am looking for a rev box too. Where can i get one at? By the way, what the **** is a CDI? I know i have a stock one. Where can i pick up a "better" one? Trying to get a 400ex carb (should be decent for performance) and a white brothers pipe is on the way. :D
Thanks

Well, about modding a 250X, I'd do it, not because I did, but because I've heard that the FST 330 kits, or 350 kits are real reliable.

You can get a 330 kit for around 200-300$ if you do the labor yourself I think?

But there are lots of ways to get power out of 250's.

Change gearing, port and polish, better cam, hi comp piston, bore kit,get bigger valves, better carb, better exhaust, the list goes on.

You might even get a good deal on gettin an engine builder to do most of that work.
