I'm going to cut my plastics on my 1996 300ex 4 wheeler. I have 2 ways sort of planned out, trying to get an idea of how it will look. If you have a picture of your 4 wheeler with cut plastics post them please. I'm not too sure if i want to but it straight down and leave the flap or cut it down and in. see attached pics for more of a visual description. You can also just post your opinion of which way you like best. Thanks.

i think the one where it curves to the left will look better

03-18-2008, 06:32 AM
cut the 1 to the right because the 1 to the left runs off of that. Cut the whole right line and see how it looks. If its good then keep it if you think it would look better witht he left cut than simple cut that rest off.

k thanks! I figured that it would look goofy with the big flap hangin off. Thanks for the help! Helped alot when i flipped it yesterday. It landed on a stump and woulda trashed the fender so i couldnt cut it. Doin a wheelie tho lol.

My back are cut as well as the front. You should do the one that curves in toward the bike, but leave a bit more material. Make the line at the part where the plastic stops flaring up and starts coming across, and cut there.

Thanks everyone! I think the fenders look great! Yours too. MINE is actually the one in the article i posted. Did you cut the stock rear fenders? Let me know what you think of the fenders.

Good lookin Honda, the cuts are just right! Perfect contrast on the airscoops too!

Yeah, if i had that one i wouldn't have done it any differently. I can't find scoops like that for mine anywhere. I keep seein people with the ones that fit right up under the fender but the only ones made for a 300 stick wayy out and look bad...

Yeah, that's awesome. I like how it looks from the front with it. I like that better than the shiney metal ones. It also looks better because it's not just a straight edge since it has the curve to it. This isnt a big deal but it would look a lil better if the plastic met up with the shraud instead of havin the gap. Looks good without it though... Nice work.

heres mine.

07-10-2008, 10:51 PM
Not a full chop but its something for a purpose and hopefully looks. I'll take some pictures and post em up when i'm done. The black part will be the part of the fenders taken off. Heres my plan:

John451
07-11-2008, 07:59 AM
So i can't really see what you cut, unles thats the before and u were going to post an after wen u do it. Dont get me wrong tho, that quad looks sick in those pics weather its before or after.

07-11-2008, 11:02 AM
thanks, yeah those pictures are of my plan what i want to cut, I have it marked out with tape and ready to go but i wanted some opinions of others

John451
07-11-2008, 12:45 PM
Ohh i see it now lol you put black over it. Yeah that's gona look great. Oya, and thanks for before about where to cut mine. I think it came out lookin okay. I did it by hand with a hacksaw blade and those can't be controled, lol one side was shorter to other. But yeah, i like how yours looks in that pic. Kinda blasterlike but better.

The covers are like the ones you would get from nacs but I got them off ebay long time ago. I just cut the middle out of them leaving the outside part to hold on to the light housing. You can turn them anyway you want to look meaner or goofier. I think they look good.

Ohh, yeah they look awesome the angle of the slant on them really matches how you cut the fenders. You must get mud all over yourself with the front AND back ones cut lol. I love riding in the rain with cut fenders cuz it like launches thhe rain back up like 8', well, you know, when your goin 60 or so. Those covers are awesome though, Since id be doin it on my friends il problably just use tape cuz its not mine :P

I usually take a jigsaw with a metal blade (or any blade that has a lot of teeths). Then I use masking tape to determine how I want the cut to be. I take the jigsaw and stay in the middle of the masking tape. When I cut one side, I try to remake the same line with the masking tape on the other side. You might have to play with a sand paper to adjust the final look because it's quite hard to go perfect with a jigsaw. Once it's all done, and if you see some white bits where you cut, just take the hair dryer and heat these parts. They should get back to the plastic's color. Here's my front and rear fender cut:

i used tape to make my lines and then cut along that w/ a hand held jig saw w/ a metal blade. its pretty easy you can use a hack saw too. you'll just have to sand the edges down you get done so it looks smooth.

if you keep ur front wheels from impacting the mud hole first then you dont get as muddy but ur arms take most of the beating cuz ur body is pretty much outta the way of the roost as it comes off the tires. so ya get a little more muddy but not to much to make that much of a diffrence cuz lets face it if you dont like gettin muddy then dont ride quads haha.

Haha yeaaa good times.... goooood times... I remember with my 300, i wasa street drifter back in the day on it and i would go out in the rain and just spin for hours straight. But when i woud go straight the water would get tossed up about 6' in third. Id love to see how high in 5th. But i sold it =\ countershaft stripped. Id love to get another... Dam i was just over gettin rid of it too!

He problably hit a tree or a branch.. most mojave's have the cracky plastic that if any real pressure is put on it it just cracks..

I hate when people brake things before i get a chance to brake it!

Same here, I realy like the way the right side turned out. But the left side(the side that was broken), makes me grit my teeth a little. What I hate is trying to explain why, it looks like I'm making an excuse.
Oh well its just a beater, 300 bucks, I had to take it even though costed 300 to get it running. Cheap sport quads are very hard to find where I live

John451
12-30-2008, 03:47 PM
Yeah, i got a beat down quad last year in august but it had a built motor in it. I got it for $700 but ended up putting $800 into it but it was the sickest quad at the end to find out the coutershaft was stripped and the sprocket was welded onto the shaft. (no wonder why it was retired to a beater quad) so i welded it, used it for a few months and it broke again then welded it again and it broke the next day then i welded it back on after grinding teeth into the sprocket and that held so i traded it for a rm250 and now thats my new black-hole that i throw all my money into.. This is what it started as minus the yellow chain. I will post after i put all my aftermarket parts on.
