so, I am interested in getting some new a-arms. I have a few concerns: How do I know how much bump steer that each companie's arms produce? Who has the reputation for quality and performance? Walsh and roll design are really expensive. I am looking at lonestar +2 +1 rec arms, some shops advertise them, however on the lonestar website, they only show +2+0 arms. Has anyone else noticed this?

+2+1 is no good on a 400ex, you want +2+0...if money is a concern, go with Houser A-Arms, their prices and quality are both great.

I run Laeger's std +2s. I like them, they are very well built and strong. If I ever get enough cash I will go to the t-pins.

Does walsh make a-arms for a 400ex? If they do how much are they?

I say Laeger, Walsh or Roll Design.

yeah, walsh makes 400ex a arms

I'm getting TBR Products new a-arms. If you remember Timmyboy Designs then you'll know who made these. He now works @ TBR and they have plans to go much bigger than Tim was on his own. The new design is somewhere between Tim's old arms and Roll Designs. The upper arms are the same while the lowers did away with the ball joints and replaced them with heat treated chome-moly spherical heim joints with a keeper pin to help eliminate the chance of the nut falling off. They also switched from Ricky Stator upper ball joints to Leager's. I'll post pics in a few days with a test over Thanksgiving. Oh I also ordered TCS Tripples w/o rezzies and got them in 5 DAYS! :D I'll be back.

I wouldnt advise houser for a LT front-end

Merrelle or Herrmann are the best LT front ends for the money (I cant decide which I want)
I wouldnt buy LSR either.

Leager, Houser, JD, Herrmann, and Burgard are all nice 16" shock a-arms

how much do those a-arms cost?? the merrel or whatever else u said?

with 4:1 wheels, Danny sayd it comes to around 49"s wide.
This set-up isn't cheap, you need 19" shocks for it, aka Long Travel. Danny quoted me $785 PC'ed

Brad Herrmann quoted me $725 for his LT front-end PC'ed www.Herrmannracing.com

Both these guys are extremely nice, and Know their chit!

Houser makes LT arms that require 19 inch shocks either in +1 or +3..

ok so housers are 25 more then the merrells. and 75 more then the Herrmanns? And supposedly what most ppl will tell u that are in the business of chassis components.....houser/axis is the best front end out there today. Even roll will tell u that. ide rather pay the extra 25-75 more for the proven a-arms:D

houser the best LT fornt end?

there nice, but there's much better set-ups out there (herrmann, merelle, roll, leager t-pin), And some of those are cheaper than houser!

Extremeracer167
11-22-2002, 01:40 PM
Why are the others so much better. Because they have the Gullwing design instead of the way houser does it:confused: The only one that would have any advantage would be the Leager T-pin setup, and they dont even make that for a 400EX.

And yes, that is suposed to be the best LT combination out in the market right now. I wouldnt say that if houser and Axis were the only ones that said that. But I was talking to the rep. for roll design at St. Clairsville, and he said the same thing.

I forgot to mention, I won't be racing this bike. I don't beat my bike up as much as some guys. I just want more travel and wider track width for a better user experience. I don't need the a-arms for "racing".... at least not official racing! Are LSR rec arms any good? They are only $525, but will I know the difference between them and $800 housers(or other high end models) There are several other companies that offer $500-$600 arms, are they just a waste of $$$ ?

Extremeracer167

If u want more travel, u need long travel a-arms and shocks. And Houser, Roll, Merrell, and Herrmann are the only ones that i know of tha tmake them. If u want just some better a-arms and shocks for messin around with your friends, then buy some houser reg. They go new for 525 or 550. And get a decent set of aftermarket shocks. :D

Let's not argue about Houser, Herrmann, Roll, and Merrell. Just get Walsh, have the best, and be done with it. :macho Walsh Racecraft (http://www.walshracecraft.com)

If your smart you'll pick the better deal with hermmann, houser, or merrell. ..just incase you want some more over priced crap you can get roll design, gibson, and lagers

Dave400ex
11-22-2002, 08:31 PM
I couldn't afford Walsh. I said if you have the money then get the Walsh. There's no doubt they are the best, in my opinion at least. If it was me buying LT's I would get Herrmann or Houser, unless I had the money for Walsh.

11-22-2002, 08:36 PM
as long as people keep buying overpriced part the aftermarket will keep selling them for that price. it's a waste of money on a product when you can get the same thing cheaper somewhere else. that why i will be buying hermmann lt a-arms in a couple weeks. they should compliment my pep lt shocks just fine

Dave400ex
11-22-2002, 08:40 PM
Yes I agree. That's why I am waiting for Arens to come out with their LT A-Arms and whatever else they are working on. He is trying to keep the price as low as he can, but yet still put out a top notch product. We all know the Arens frames are awesome.

11-22-2002, 08:41 PM
yes theyare an hopefully there 400ex frames will be nice( i was told he's going to build them)

Dave400ex
11-22-2002, 08:47 PM
Yes there is a huge thread in here about them building the 400ex Frame, as well as them working on some LT A-Arms. It's called "CRF and Stock Frames" if you have not seen it. Great info in it.

11-23-2002, 01:26 PM
considering they go for about 1100-1300 i thought it was a good deal... plus they were brand new.. so even if new ones were 950 youd be savin...i dont know, i think the best value would be herrmanns or housers, i just got lobos because i love the look..but 1700 for a set of chrome aarms is way to much... i think gibsons are sort of overpriced too. i cant wait to see what Arens will put out and what kinda price it has on it...

stocktires
11-23-2002, 02:20 PM
Thats kinda what Im saying, even at that price, Merelle or even Herrmann's would be better

11-23-2002, 02:37 PM
yeah but merrels dont make 400ex aarms

Dave400ex
11-23-2002, 04:15 PM
Merrell like only makes stuff for the 250r right now. Herrmann and Houser have to be the best deal out. Again I am wanting to see what Arens brings out.

11-24-2002, 06:58 AM
i like housers and plan to order them soon!
