Doesn't just pull my 400ex, pulls the whole crew along!

97 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 4x4 Long Bed Dually.
454 Big Block (hauls!)
4:56 gears
leather interior
premium sound
Dually

We also got some new tires recently. They're a lot taller and beefy, they give the truck better ground clearance and look cooler.

All I have to do is flip up one couch and move 2 swivel rockers forward to get 2 quads inside. To get 3 quads inside I have to move the swivel rockers up on the loft bed or up front to the main bedroom.

On long trips, I have to put the fourwheeler backwards in the bed because the bed tapers, and its the only way it will fit in the fenderwells. On short trips, I have a hidden hitch and flip down lic. plate.

not sure if I'm doin' the attachment pic thing right, so this first one is a test. if it works, I'll post some more of the
"towing options"

<a href="http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/Honda%20trx250ex%20quad/Camper%20and%20toybox/?action=view&current=IMG_7352.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/Honda%20trx250ex%20quad/Camper%20and%20toybox/IMG_7352.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

o.k., so the second try worked, and I'll try a couple more...

<a href="http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/Honda%20trx250ex%20quad/Camper%20and%20toybox/?action=view&current=IMG_7336.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/Honda%20trx250ex%20quad/Camper%20and%20toybox/IMG_7336.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

here's a couple of the other toy's that go in the toybox as well...

<div style="width:600px; text-align: center;"><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://w111.photobucket.com/pbwidget.swf?pbwurl=http://w111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/el mirage thanksgiving 06/1169528876.pbw" height="480" width="600"><a href="http://i111.photobucket.com/redirect/album?action=slideshow&landing=/slideshows&type=3" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/slideshows/btn.gif" style="float:left;border-width: 0;" ></a><a href="http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/el%20mirage%20thanksgiving%2006/?action=view&current=1169528876.pbw" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/slideshows/btn_viewallimages.gif" style="float:left;border-width: 0;" ></a></div>

Good catch. Right after college, I moved to Memphis to take a job. Lived there 5 years and hated it-having the dragstrip close by was about the only plus. My wife & I moved back to KY this past June and love it here.

Does your 1/2 ton pull that toy hauler pretty good? I have a near identical truck and I am looking at almost that exact hauler. I have the 5.4L with an cold air intake and exhaust and 33"s, but it sucks on gas big time. It looks like your enclosed trailer is pretty large as well. I have a 17ft V nose enclosed, and with 4 bikes and gear in there, I get 8mpg and about 60-65 is all she can handle without being @ 3.5K RPM and really sucking down the gas.

I guess the question is whether or not I should be concerned on the wear and tear on my truck enought to justify a trade in on a diesel?

Yes it tows it pretty good, even in the mountains around here. Of course I don't win any races, but I don't clog up traffic either. I did have the Ford dealer put 4.10 gears in it right after I bought it because those 305/55-20 tires dragged it down pretty bad.

The 30' trailer is definitely a chore for it when loaded ( I usually haul cars in it) and an F-350 or 450 Diesel would definitely do it much better.

I have been using it this way since day one for 2.5 years so far and no problems.

FWIW, my next truck will be a diesel.

Here is the "brown bomb" It's scary, ugly and pretty much a moving violation if a cop spots it, but the 300 six in this POS just keeps ticking... 197K and counting...

When I have to haul more then one pile of junk, or a gaggle of 3wheelers I'll break out ole trusty rusty F350. 4 on the floor and a big block 460, she drinks LOTS o gas!

really? the reason we did was is was so hard to get the the cabin with a trailer. theirs a tight trail all the way into the woods and its easier if you dont have to mess around with a trailer

Here's my 04 Cummins. 6 Speed manual w/35x12.50R17 BFG Mud Terrains, 4 inch exhaust, quad race box, DDP injectors and a rok tek timing advance. Pretty fun boiling off a set of 35's in 3rd gear.
Diesel prices are a killer but I get 23 to 24 mpg unloaded and with my 4000 pound boat I get 21mpg when I bolt on my stock tires. Not too bad. When I bought it I was paying less that 2 bucks a gallon!!!

Fun!!

I just about finished rebuilding a trailer I bought off craigslist for $70. . Originally a pop up camper. Put around $350 into it. The 2x12's where a bit overkill, but I wanted planks instead of 1 big piece, it looks nicer :). I use it to do leaves too, I can pack so much on there with the sides, its unbelievable! Im very happy with it how it came out. I've gotten alot of compliments from friends.

Im only 19 and still going to school so I was kind of on a budget with money and tools. I would have went with thinner pressure treated wood, welded 1.5ft steel sides, Epoxy coating for wood finish, and better/more lights.

Still have to paint the stake pockets (next year when there is rust on it), put 3 D-hooks down the middle, mount the ramps under the trailer, paint the wheels, and give it a overcoat so it will stay in a nice satin black color.

Fits my 400ex sideways, and a blaster forward at the end.

Here's the suburban I replaced the Jeep with. Only 25k on the clock. 10 inch of lift on 37" BFG's. 2wd (gay), but picked it up for 10g about 6 months ago. Has the G80 rear end (locking diff). Has done well with mild off road so far. This is the pic from the ad. I've since added a pair of black hoop steps on each side.

Ah, thanks!

Mine's a LS. Even more low end :) I has all you need though. Cozy cloth seats (buckets up front). CD, AC, Power everything, steering wheel controls (mine has some sort of Denali steering wheel on it with the black wood on top and bottom. It looks nice. Has the factory DVD system in it too which the kids enjoy. I'm really happy with the layout of the suburban. TONS of space if you are not using the 3rd row. More space than just about everything out there if you are using the 3rd row.

scuzz
12-12-2008, 12:56 PM
I couldn't agree more!

Mine has all that and leather/heated seats. I have a wife, three kids and two dogs. The space is perfect. They also love the DVD and insist on watching it for short trips to the store. Pulling a trailer is effortless with the 5.3 and you don't even know it's back there. I love it so much better than the expedition I had before. My Tacoma is WAY underpowered.

:) I'm feeling better about it already :)

My burb does know when a trailer is back there. When I pull my open top utility trailer with 3-4 quads on it, or my 3500lb boat/trailer, it likes to down-shift to 3rd quite often. I need to change the gears in the rear end. With the current set up, it runs at too low of RPM at freeway speeds. Isn't in the power band that it should be in to pull the hills without down-shifting. Another 800 bucks and she'll tow a lot better :)

FWIW, I'm familiar with the LS/LT names, but, I just hadn't heard of LT3 before. I'm only semi retarded.

Do you have the 5.3? (I can't see it having the 4.8)

Also, I always tow with the overdrive off...

Yeah, the Vortec 5.3.

I just put it in tow mode, but normal "D4" and let it shift when needed.

Think I should just put it in 3 unless I know I'm on the flats for a long time?

in our f150 with the 5.4 we leave it in overdrive when we pull the quads (3 400s on a 1000lb trailer) and it never really downshifts, but obviously turn o/d off when pulling our 27 foot camper. we have always wondered if we're on a long flat road if we could put it in o/d to get better fuel economy. people from f150online said the actual 4th gear is not beefy enough to undergo that kind of strain, so i think you're best off just leaving it in 3rd/od off.

Agreed. As such, I'm going to just use 3rd for the next couple trips and see how it goes. With the big tires, I'll be running at a lower RPM than normal anyway, so, hopefully it will be a nice blend of mpg and lower tranny strain.

05 GMC and 07 400, I finally have them both pretty clean at the same time which is rare, the 400 loads in the back perfect only like 1/2 inch of space to tailgate new tires and it would be tight enough to not even bother with straps

Mine is a 97 ext cab silverado red with the four fourwheelers behind it on a three place floe snowmobile trailer. It pulls with the truck better than the 03 burb with the 5.3. That is a waste of metal compared to the 5.7 sorry no pics right now. Steve

i was just there this past weekend.
it was nice on saturday, a little wind, started to get harsher at around 4.
sunday was 40mph+ winds, hard to follow people because of roost.
MONDAY- it was pristine(sp?) there were NO tracks anywhere. the sand was light, so sliding across a dune in 3rd on a 450 was awesome. going slow, all you had to do was turn the bars a little, and you could do a slow powerslide.
the weathers getting a little warm, but id rather ride in the 80-90* then in 50-60*

Mine looks pretty wide normally but it looks really wide there b/c its cranked down to the trailer with ratchet straps, if i remember you have stock shocks, just adjust them so you front sits a bit lower and it will be a bit wider, also do you have stock wheels?

Im not a fan of craptors either, look how huge the DS650 looks in the middle haha, you should have seen my 300lb friend airing that thing out at the mx track that day

Yeah even cranked down it looks wide... Im running works triple rate shcoks right now. Im running stock wheels, I also have a 22" stock tire in the front also. When I get some 20s Im sure that will widen the stance a little.

Here's the shelves. Not real fancy, but they were CHEAP! We have one cubby for each family member, with some extra storage at the end.
