I recently changed the valve cover gasket on my 2006 400ex.. before this i noticed a ticking noise inside the motor.. when i first started it up (cold) the tick noise was very noticeable and much louder.. but once it warmed up the ticking became less noticable and not as loud.. would anyone know what might cause this... valves maybe? it has recently been rebuilt... just need some imput on it plz.. or if anyone has experiecned this b4

adjust your valves .. intake is 0.004in or 0.10mm, exhaust is 0.005in or 0.12mm. set your valve lash when you enine is cold..:)

that's normal even if the valves are adjusted properly. if it is really excessive you might check the exhaust gaskets, that will make it tick pretty loud. these motors are noisy.

i've got a hotcam stage 1 in mine and it ticks alot louder than a stock motor, but they say it's normal and i've never had any problems.

Make sure the piston is at TDC,(look for T in inspection cover),.004 for intake and .005 for exhaust.Feeler gauge should have slight drag....Once you do it,its quite simple.;) Consult a manual if your not too sure
