Think of it this way, the kids parents aren't going to blame themselfs for making their child fat, they will blame the schools.. So the schooling system is required to provide students a good meals that are healthy to more or less cover their butts and give children healthy eatting habbits. Hence the same reason drugs are not allowed in schools. That and your really not to suppose to sell anything in school unless its a fun raiser. ;) The kid actually broke quite a bit of rules even though it doesn't seem like a horrible thing to do.

Doesn't matter what the item you throw is that's in your hand, once you throw it and it leaves your hand they consider it as a weapon or a act of violence. lol can't blame the school.. plus look on the bright side, you got to sleep in 3 days.. ;)

Says the guy clearly needing more spelling education!

The school stepped over the line on this one.

The school district choosing not to carry candy in the vending machines is fine, although I think it's silly. But suspending an honor student, stripping his title, etc for buying candy from another student....ridiculous! The school district should know banning something just makes the students rebel that much more. I think the best thing would be to have both candy/healthy vending machines. Let the students make the choice, if they eat more candy, so be it.

What's interesting is the candy ban has been in place since 03. Seriously, how does something this stupid become policy? If I was that principal, I couldn't even imagine calling a parent up and telling them their student was suspended for buying candy! :huh

So what if he was caught buying/selling porn, do you think the punishment would be justified? Maybe if it was dealing with something more offensive, but not necessarily illegal...

I'm willing to bet this kid knew the rules. I'm betting this wasn't the first time that buying/selling candy has been brought up. Regardless of how dumb the rule is, it's still a rule. He knew it, he chose to break it.

One of the biggest lessons all you kids should learn is that just because you don't agree with the rule/law, that doesn't mean you don't have to follow it. If you choose to break that rule, regardless of how stupid you think it is, you should be prepared to face the consequences.

Grow up.

Yes its a rule, but for God sakes dont they have more important things like the drug deal that happend 3 lockers down. I mean me and my friends have energy drinks in our lockers and if people ask us for one well sell one to them.

While I usually agree with you, many instances in history would say thats a bad way of looking at it. For instance, why our ancestors came to this country. (might be a stretch, who knows)

I just know when I was in school, and it wasn't long ago, we practically had foods and snacks shoved down our throats by our teachers...no joke. I think they got some of their funds to do programs by selling us crap.

Funny how from one school its illegal, and at another it's a fund raiser!

I won't argue that some of the greatest movements in the history of the world came about by NOT following the rules.

There is definitely a time and place to go against the grain, to challenge the status quo. But those are extraordinary times, by extraordinary people. The cafeteria of your middle school is neither the time, place, nor age for an extremist rebellion.

The youth of our nation would do well to learn the lesson that radical action is a LAST resort, not a first.

I'm sorry but the people that are posting that this punishment was justified are ridiculous!!!

And obviously the school system agrees...

same here, and our lunch is 2.25 for the main meal and a milk or juice, anything else is extra money
