Well after a year of not riding my quad due to a bad motor and countless fights with my parents I finally am going to rebuild my motor, I have a good list on what I want but I just want your ideas or minor tweaks you guys would do. What im shooting for is a low to mid range mainly and on ocassionally top end motor does this sound pretty good?

JE piston running 11:1 comp
Hotcam Stage 2
CRF cam chain
P&P the head
3 angle valve job

just the minor stuff

Cosmetic Steel Flex gaskets
Clutch cover gaskets
Exhaust gaskets
new seals

And on top of that a Clymer repair manual

a Clymer repair manual is the best manual you can get IMO...but yeah that combo sounds good.

Just purchased the Manual, but IDK whats better trying to find a kit or buy everything seperate?

I might as well be smart and do everything right the first time and order from Colby that way I know what i'm getting and it dont leave me guessing.

J/W anyone have the GWC kit?

Consider the '04-'05 450R carb. Nice upgrade!

I cant buy the 450 carb yet unless I can sell somethings so the stocker will have to do for now.

Everything looks good, except for I personally wouldn't use Cometic gaskets. I didn't have a problem with them untill tonight when I replaced the head gasket on my 400 due to the cometic blowing out. I haven't seen this problem with a factory gasket, and we have 400's come through atleast once every week or two. Maybe it was just a coinsidence, but out shop manager didn't seem to think much of them either.

What other Gasket would you suggest? I've been debating weather or not to get HD studs also, I know its good insurence and I know people on here that have had the stock studs work with 440 motors but im kinda on a budget.

I run my 426 with no HD studs. And for gaskets i used a Namura Complete Gasket Kit.Holding up just fine so far, they been in since last spring.$60 bucks for complete set,i know your only doing the top end but you'll use those extra gaskets down the road.

Ok then I wont worry bout them. I'll look into the gaskets.

Ok so I found the Namura complete gasket kit for $60 at Magic racing but I was wondering does that come with like the clutch cover gasket and exhaust gaskets? like the copper crush gaskets?

The namura sounds like a good deal, and since REDRIDER has had good luck with them, I would guess you won't have a problem. I used a factory honda gasket because I work at a dealership, and only needed one gasket opposed to a whole set.

yes all gaskets are included. or call someone to find out for sure but yeah clutch cover, center case, stator side cover, valve seals,ect...

Great i'll just go that route then.

Is there any tips or tricks for disassembly or reassembly of the motor?

as long as you follow your clymer manual you'll be fine.

Ok thanks, If I run into problems i'm sure ill post it. I'll probably put up a rebuild thread soon.

good luck but really its pretty straight forword when doing a top end rebuild and your clymer will get you no problem.

Well I'm feeling pretty good about it so hopefully it will be one bad arse machine, was lucky that my pivot bolt wasnt seized up so hopefully i'll get lucky again.
