i am selling my 250ex for 2600 to my friend and buying a 450r. i have a crf250r so i will be used the the whole 'u have to ride balls to the walls type of rideing' but i wasnt sure about if the 05 had problems or what but i dont want to spend more than 4200 so any suggestions on either 05 or 06. o one more thing the bike is for mx and some times trails 'if that matters about the year but i dont think it does'

I like my 05 but 1st gear is hard to get used to at first but they have a top end advantage because of the gearing.

They have a real high first gear(as in a faster 1st) When i had my 05 i used to go to an indoor track in the winter to stay in shape and with it being a tight track i often would just stay in first and could run the whole track that way. I ended up gearing it down to a 13 tooth in the front and that helped alot. On my 07 which is the same as an 06 i kept stock gearing and love it on a track. The 06+ bikes have a little more a*s in stock trim and can be really opened up with some simple mods. but all years are good bikes. The major problem with the 04/05 are the crank issues.....4000 aint terrible for a slightly used 04 but if you aint in a big hurry you could shop around and find one cheaper than that.

I have had 2 05's, and like em better than the 06-up. I also like the stainless intake valves over the titanium ones on the 06-up.

i just got a 05' used w/ full pipe, nerfs, handlebars ( pretty stock) for $3500. i thought that was an awesome deal, but I wouldn't mine paying 4000 for a basically brand new one!
