View Full Version : Pinch Bolt Trouble

I recently went to to tightin the chain on my 04' 400ex and i went to loosen the pinch bolts on the swing arm to adjust it and almost all of the bolts were stripped im guessin this was due to the previous owner of the quad i tryed using a larger hex hoping that maybe it would work but it didnt so now im stuck i have a race coming up and i really need that chain tight anyone have any advice on how to loosen those bolts :(

Try to get a good firm bite on the allen heads with a good pair of vice grips. Spin them out that way and replace them.

i had the same problem but this is what i did...grind the allen bolt flat and then use a pair of vise grips it works great.also when you get them out order new one and torque them to 15ftlbs.

i've just cut a line down the middle before and used a screw driver

ive used a big easy out you can pick up a set at sears or go to your local hardware store and buy them individually

if all else fails, use an air hammer or chisel and get on one side and spin em out

Antiseize them up next time along with the pivot bolt and you wont have any more problems.

thanks for all the advice guys i went out today and tryed using some vice grips on it and it worked like a charm only had one problem and that was when the vice grips would randomly fling off and there went my knuckles into the sprocket lol only took 1 time of that to relize i need to throw a cover over the sprocket to protect my knuckles lol
