stock 400ex beat a yfz450

today one of our buddys showed up at another buddies house and said get your 400ex out i want to beat it real quick, they lined up on the asphalt and the 400 smoked the yfz. well the kid with the yfz is buying if off another buddy of ours. and alls that is done to the 400 is a pipe. we all know a yfz should smoke a stock 400 but the funny part is that the yfz blew up. this kid blew a yfz up trying to beat a stock 400ex lol i just thought it was funny and wanted to share.

dont get me wrong, 400ex's are cool but 450's put out more power than any stock 400ex.

The best motor to put in is the xr650 motor because it has the cooling fins and looks very similar to the 400ex motor witht he exception of being bigger. I have seen a 400ex with a XR650 motor in it making 75HP! It raped.

My 440 does 75 on pavement w/slight downhill. My dad's HRC450R does 73+ easy.

It was a BUILT xr650 engine, not stock. Stock they're in the 30's, but its the torque they have that makes em move.

DS650's have about 38-42hp, not 100. lmao.

The highest stock numbers I know:

1) Thundercat 1000- 72hp
2) Renegade 800- 62hp
3) Quadzilla 500- 52hp

You my friend are one of the biggest jack offs I have ever seen in my life. I held myself back from saying this in many other situations before but now I cant hold it back because of some of your stupid posts bragging up your 400ex with a whole lot of stupid stickers and works shocks. lol hey now. yeah i know that a yfz will smoke a 400 i just thought it was hilarious when you put it in the way that it blew up trying to beat a 400ex after getting beat by a 400 like 3 times, it obviosly wasn't running right but it sure says something for honda though haha. i brag on my 440 but its the only bike ive ever had that was mine and not my parents and everything about it i have worked for. nobody bought for me, i have made it my own and i love it.

You're comment really wasn't necessary but if you go back and read some of the crap where he brags up his 400ex and now he says it goes 75 mph, well yea thats really getting annoying. I like to come into this section because the 400ex is one of my favorite quads and I would love to have one for trails but I just would rather have my 450r over one because it suited me better. I didn't want to start anything with anyone but I am just sick of this kid and his BS stories, and the only reason I said that is becuase I hate people like that when they have to lie about everything they say and brag up what they have. I never said my 450r was great just said if a 400ex is faster I am going to sell it and go get one.

and an hrc450r should pull 80 and change (06 up)

My friend built 2005 400ex stroker and the whole shabang a bang hit 86MPH believe it or not. It was a beast but it didnt last very long. He sold it after a year or so because he felt the engine going on him. I rode it and wow talk about power. Every gear pulled so hard it felt like riding a rocket ship.

I built my400ex mildly- 426 kit with stage 2 cam and white brothers pipe. Im in my mid 30's and back in the day I had a built quadracer 250. My 400ex was my first quad since then - and its been 12 years or more...(man im gettin old)... Anyway - my quadracer used to scare me! That thing was just insane...I loved the 2 stroke powerband... Well, after working on my 400ex for many months building it up a bit, I have to say I was a little disappointed... Dont get me wrong, its a very nice bike and handles very well...and has lots of power...but it didnt scare the crap out of me like my quadracer did.... So, I sold it and bought an '07 YFZ. I havent gotten my YFZ in yet (shipping from Missouri) but I have a feeling I will notice a considerable difference between the 400ex and YFZ...I seriously doubt a 400ex can outrun a YFZ in a drag race unless the rider of the YFZ made some mistakes....

sure a 400 can beat a yfz that is on its last leg, low on compression, non-maintained, about to blow.
(could do it on a trx90 under the right conditions)

stack the deck aginst anything and the outcome can be adjusted
(heck, you could race in reverse and the 400 would win)

if you want to brag about the 400ex, its high points are

handleing, reliability, performance,
reliability, price, reliability,
aftermarket suport, reliability, parts availability
reliability, style, reliability, resale value, reliability

did I mention reliability ?

yes they use to be top dog, raced by pro's but the 450's turned it into a sporty trail atv

i have seen this many times the bigger bike doesnt always win no matter what.its mainly the rider that wins races.apparently the fella riding the losing bike may not posses the skill yet.anyway i was use to riding a 500 quadzilla for years then i got a 400ex after a few years of without and love it.they have alot of power and are fun for a 4-stroke.i get real sick of wheelie crap all the time wich i could keep the front end down more and not lose so much momentum.

Hey fella's I am the one that was riding the 400ex.I've had it since 04.I change the oil about every two rides.I also put it on the stand after every ride and make sure everythings tight.A little preventive maintaince goes along way.


I am not sure what was wrong with that yfz.I have an 04 yfz450.And suprise suprise it's broke.It has fuel,spark and compression but it won't start.I believe it is a timing issue.


Anyway I rode that yfz and it did feel down on power.I had no idea that was going to happen though.We race till where tapped in 5th and I was acctaully pulling on him with a stock motor 400ex.


It was just a fluke.The bike was getting ready to blow up.I got lucky and got to put on a yamaha with an old school 400.


My yfz is a blast to ride whenever it runs.I have had alot of problems with mine though.

lol this thing deffinately topped near stock 450's. I mean 86MPH with so much torque and power ever gear it didnt hesitate it kept pulling strong until it hit the rev limiter. It was deffinately the fastest most usable quad I have ever ridden.

its more about how slow the yfz was than how fast the stock

I am not a big fan of yamaha 4-strokes.I have a yfz and been around a few raptors. and a warrior.


Let's see the warrior caught on fire.It burnt the wiring harness and Was a complete pos.It was a 1996 and IMO there junk.

The raptors I have been around where always broke and when they where running the the shook like crazy and ran no where near what a 660 should run like.I have no experince with the 700's though.I sure hope there better than the 660's.

I got my yfz because I went to the bank one day and it was repo'd in front of the place.I believe I got it in 06.When I went to pick it the bike would not start.The bank replaced the battery.The bike would still not start using the start button.It would run if you jumped the starter silenoid.I bought a new selinoid and it didn't help instead it caused the bike to make a loud popping sound out of the silenoid.

About a month later the bike quit running and as soon as you let the clutch out it would die.Went to the dealer and the mechanic told me there is a switch under the plastic to unplug.I unpluged it and the bike ran again.I rode it all day at st joe one day.I got it out of the back of the truck and it spits the oil plug out of the head.Replace the oil plug and go to ride the bike.It starts for about 30 seconds and has never ran since.

Nobody in the YFZ furom will help with this.I have a buddy with another 04 and it does the same thing.Fuel,spark,Compression but will not start.I started to take apart the motor and put it back togother.I'll let a yamaha mechanic fix it.(I am sure there's lots of em)

There where other problems as well.I have a freind that bought a brand new yfz that would not run.The dealer told him that the bike was jetted for a different state and that's how they are.He has now got the bike to run on his own.

The same person owned this yfz that blew up.The guy takes care of his stuff and the oil was very clean.


Whenever I get my Yfz fixed I am selling it and staying with honda.Yamaha is kinda like ford IMO.And put togother with junk to make junk.

I am sure I just made alot of people mad.I have had bikes since I was 7 years old and have had many honda's and yamaha's.Honda has always made a better product IMO.

Myne's No Joke,just a 416 pump gas motor,it has a head by me,cam etc..450's with slipons and some with pipes have been smoked..If you dont believe that I hope a few chim in that have seen the rear of myne and we ran from a roll..I wiegh 190lbs and it runs alittle over 73 mph in the 1/8 on asphault and Nobbies...(farmington dragway)Oh yea that was with a slip on...Fastall is a member here and he was there His 06 yfz450 is the only one thats out ran me..About a hand full have eat dust..:p Myne will make 40 + hp....

2 friends of mine, one with 100% stock 06 700 rappy
the other with a 2000 416 with pipe/cam

416 gets him by 2 lengths every time (in 300')

yeah i know it always seems faster on dirt or sand than the road. You can feel resistance on the road because if you hit the gas and let off you slow down super quick. Now if I had like flat track racing/road tires I bet it would haul

pull in the clutch on black top and see how far you "roll"

do the same in sand.........you get drug down alot faster

its pretty easy physics, the harder the surface the less drag on the tire

I think there are alot of variables (tires/temp.s/traction/susp.)

if you run faster times on dirt then there is something other than
"drag" of blacktop holding you back

its no coincidence that the fastest 1/8 and 1/4 mile times on earth have been run on blacktop

the deeper your tires "sink" into the race surface, the more resistance it creates to motion (my tires sink deeper in sand,then dirt, not asphault)
