I do about 50/50 trail and dune riding in Florida. The 400 hates to ride the trails slow. I either have to ride 1st gear with way to high rpm's or ride 2nd with way to low rpm's. My question is what sprocket (sprockets) and chain could I install the would increase the rpm's while riding in 2nd gear? I understand it may effect the top end but I really don't race or need to go that fast. Any ideas? I would like to swap just one sprocket if possible. The bike is stock except for the K+N (airbox still on) and jets.

Try dropping the front sprocket a tooth.

What size is the stock tooth? Do I need to change the rear sprocket or chain also? Thanks

Search for "Sprocket" or use this link, it will answer all your questions.

The stock is 15t front, 38t rear. If you want a slightly greater gain drop 1+2 teeth in the front. If you want a slight change, change the back, go up 4 or so teeth. But remember, every three teeth you go up or down you need to either add or take away a tooth. And the rear are more expensive than the front. If you want fronts, look on eBay. Theres a guy who sells them on there, very nice guy and there cheep too!
