250R: + Fast, light, good suspension, & good frame geometry. - Hard to find a stock one, and there a money pit.

700R: + Fast, okay frame geometry, & great suspension. - Four-stroke (takes more money to modify), middle weight, & it's a Yamaha!

My dads 700r handles better than my 440.

Just because its a 4-stroke, doesnt mean it will take more money to mod. It actually is a light weight. 375ish lbs...a YFZ only weighs 350. Nothing is wrong with a Yamaha.

Well my 440 handles better than my dad's 450R. And the Yamaha thing was a joke.:p

I don't understand what you're asking.. At all.

Are you asking this, so you wont buy a new quad, and still be getting smoked by your buddy?

Get the 250r if its in good shape and the person only wants 1800.

I still say that it will still be the better rider who wins races.

Put Joe Byrd on a 400ex and then put him on a 450r and see which one he turns faster laps on.

 Put Bill Balance on my 440 then on my dad's '06 HRC 450r for GNCC racing. THEN SEE WHICH ONE TURNS IN FASTER LAP TIMES.

The 450.

Easily. Your Works shocks in the front on stock a-arms and "offset wheels that make it wide enough for MX" are gonna make your 440 a ***** on a GNCC course.

You've got a 400ex, with Works shocks and stock a-arms. Dont try to hype it up to more than it is.

And my post wasn't reffering to the power of the machine. I was reffering to thier handling. The 450r handles better than a 400ex, and thats a known fact.

get a 250r

i get the impression that you, XXXRACER165, have the biggest baddest best handling quad in the world! and that nothin can beat your 440

OK, back to the original question....My uncle has a 250r that he mx's with, and I have the Raptor in my sig. In a drag race, the 250r is faster to 20 feet, after that, wave bye-bye to the Raptor, cause you will get blown away.

The Raptor is WAY more reliable, and far better in the trails. The only way a 250r is better is on the mx track.....that's it.

03-09-2008, 03:29 PM
A 250r and 400ex are almost the exact same. The 400ex was made to be a 4 stroke competitor to the 250r. They are some of the best handling quads and thats proven. Dont say no the 450r is better or something because take stock for stock handling and the 250r or 400ex will be better. Now adays its hard to compete against 450's on the MX track but in the trails you can. Upgade the suspension and do a few simple mods and your set. As far as the 250r vs raptor goes... to me a Raptor feels top heavy and clunky while the 250r is light and nimble. The Raptor no doubt has some amazing speed but look at it as of course its got speed its a really big bore sport quad. 250r's have been proven for many years and continue to be used to compete against modern 4 strokes and such. And to the my uncle has a MX 250r and you have the raptor, if he has a MX 250r more than likely its on 18" tires and geared for acceleration.

Hey.............That hurt! Thats not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying you take a fairly stock 450R and a well built 440EX and the odds are close to 50/50. Ones going to roost the other in some situations. And for my machine........the offset wheels act as wider a-arms and a wider axle, but it's still not wide enough to hit trees.
And my shocks are set up perfect for rough terrain + my motor is built very well which makes it a very good machine to ride. I'm not trying to bragg guys! It is what it is.

If your 440s engine was built by DRI, and its the National engine, then why are you still running the stock cylinder and a White Bros. pipe?

The National 440 kid from DRI comes with thier PC4000 cylinder and thier Fatboy4 exhaust.

Your 440 is not what you say it is.:chinese:

I'm running the stock cyl because I don't have the money to run the PC4000. It works just as well. And I'm running WB pipe cause I think it's better than DR FB4 exhaust.

Back on subject...i say get the Raptor. If you dont plan on doing anything to the engine on either one then definetly the Raptor. I guarantee(sp) you the R will blow first no matter how its built. But hey guys thats my opinion so dont get all bent outta shape about it.

Do you drag race all the time just for fun? Or do you go out and ride the track, ride trails, open areas, etc?

If you want to "drag race", buy a Banshee. ;)

i only drag race every once in a while on an open road, i own a warrior, so i dont win very often, so now here's my next question if i ride trails alot and the occasional track should i just keep my warrior ( i have quite a few mods on it) or should i buy an 86 250r for $1800 with works shocks and some other goodies...

I think the R for $1800 is a really good deal, and it will smoke your Warrior.

Get the R for sure.

Then you can sell your warrior and use that $ to fix anything you dont like about the 250r, or get the shocks serviced and revalved for your weight.

Deffinately get the 250r though.:)
