i have a 400ex. i installed a hotcam stage 1 cam today and i have a few qustions. i had the crank set at TDC and the marks on the cam sprockets are lined up with the lobes down. my question is, it doesn't matter where the chain is on the cam sprocket, as long as everything is TDC? any feedback would be helpful. thanks travis
As long as the piston is at TDC, the cam sprocket lines are in the correct position and the cam lobe are pointing down you're good to go.
The position of the chain on the sprocket doesn't matter.

i got it to fire up. i had to adjust the valves. it still seems to tick a little louder than before. is this pretty common with an aftermarket cam? thanks
yeah its normal most all of the aftermarket cams tick a little louder

Get a couple hours of break in time on it and readjust the valves. What did you set them at? Should be .005" and .006".
