well heres the deal. Was out riding some pretty intense trails...Tried to go up a little rock face.. got to the top lost it and my 400 rolled about 350 feet down the mountain. so theres the story.
Now my problems. Im pretty good when it comes to bikes and cars and whatnot. But im completly stumped. When i try and start it, it spins tries to start, but when it runs for a second or so, i hear this noise like gears are being spun backwards and it just kills the motor. I took the case off where the flywheel and stater are. I inspected the gears, i found no signs of gears meshing the wrong way. Can someone help me?
thanks

when i start it up. if it will start. when it runs for a second or two, i hear what to me sounds like a gear getting stuck or turning the wrong way. and then the motor just stalls out and dies. its like metal hitting metal kind of noise.

well first of all check and see if any motor mounts are broke... make sure it is in neutral.. if possible put the bike on a jack or milk crate to get the rear wheels off the ground... and then try to start it and see what happens

its been in the air, and the mount on the valve cover is broken on one side of the mount. it rolled pretty far.. so

sorry to be off topic, but could you post a picture of the whole bike. I really wanna see what a 350ft cliff would do to a Honda.

Thanks.

Wow, that must suck. Hey I gotta question about your WB. (Good thing your only have to get more disks and not a new pipe!) How did it old up? And is it the newer or older style (Old = no bracket between mid pipe and can; New = bracket between mid pipe and can) I have the older and I rode it for 2 hours and the weld on the mid pipe broke. :( Though, I can't be the one whining... ^^

Thanks.

Don't remember how many feet, but here is a Honda that tumbled a hundred or more times down a mountain in the areas I ride.

looks good as new lol j/k man i cant imagine seeing a quad flip that many times or roll down a huge hill like that. The most flips I have ever seen a quad or a person do on a quad is 8. My buddy didnt fly off because his shifter went through his leg keeping him on... it wasnt pretty

ive broke that valve cover mount before. that wont effect the motor running at all. did u drian the oil and look for metal shavings? or take the clutch cover off?
