any vids or more pics of this thing. I would love to get some spec on this thing since I have been planning on doing something similar.

that 400 looks pretty cool! with the size of that turbo is can't be runnin no more than 10 pounds of boost. plus i would really like to know how the owner keep the turbo cool. that mod would take alot of work.

10 psi is alot of boost for a 400 motor depending on fuel, Comp etc.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY anyone can run 10 pounds or boost on an air cooled motor. It would have to have some sort of air:water intercooler.

Air to water ic will only help so much, my guess would be meth or its running alc.

it is running on methanol and we are planning on running it at about 6 pounds of boost to start.

Can we get more spec on the moto such as piston size, comp, cam, head work, etc.

Garrett Turbo makes a turbo kit for the 400ex. the price tag went up so high recently. I have seen a few making 14PSI of boost

hi what size is the turbo? what is the part number?

I would never buy a complete turbo kit for any car let alone a 400ex, get the parts you need and bring it to a welder and have him build you a mani. Me id go with a kkk series turbo k03 would be more then enough and would spool crazy fast. Not to mention they can be found for very cheap. Thrn go on ebay and get a uni piping kit and get to work.

Buying "kits" can eliminate a lot of guess work and mistakes, but I can tell you from experience that turbos are a different kind of animal, and unless you have VERY extensive experience not only with tuning turbos, but also custom fabricating parts to fit this is not the project for you. I would love to drag a turbo ex. I love the rush you get when you feel/hear the turbo spool it hits you shift you hear the (rfl) BOV. But highly involved nature of this project makes it very costly.

I also need to edit one of my earlier posts.
An 650 cfm air:air intercooler would probably work with meth injection.

Also, you will need a turbo timer, need boost and oil temp gauges, probably need to use some sort sequential BOV, if you want any tuneability a boost controller, probably external wastegate, not to mention the path you would have to take to route the piping.

And, good luck with making an exhaust system that can work with a turbo single piston engine.

You will never be able to achieve very high efficiency without an ECU either. Tuning a turbo without an ECU is not something I would like to try. I hope that you are converting to efi, as well.

Hey, anybody that can make this work has got a lot of work to do, and has got a LOT of money to waste.

I think what I am trying to say is: Why do this to an ATV it is meant to be versatile, this is limiting it alot.
Why not just start out with a sportbike?

Good luck with the project!!!

Boosting anything that is not intended to be boosted would be costly, you really don't need a turbo timer, you just need to let the oil cool before turning it off. As far as tuning goes well that's a whole nother story. Personally I would love to boost one of these things but its just not worth the money. Not to mention the turbo is not going to like a single cyl pushing it w/ constantly getting on and off the gas. I like my quad for running around not going just in a strait like (that's what my car is for) o and to touch and the bov, in this case id run a dv. It would make it much better when shifting gear by keeping it from running extremely rich .

4. Feel free to attach ATV related pictures to you posts. Pictures of riders without helmets will be deleted - riding without a helmet is very dangerous and is an activity strongly comdemned by ATVriders.

Looks pretty cool....

Another thing to consider when doing this project is that you will have to drop CR to 9:1 if you run gasoline.

If you have meth injection or run on alcohol you can bump the compression up and make it a little safer.
