The base has anyone ever used it?

yes, with positive results. i had to go up 3 to 4 jet sizes and noticed a bit more pull. the kit is worth it to me.

I have no problem spending the extra money I just want to make sure it will not allow too much dust and dirt into the intake.

What type of conditions did you ride in and how did your intake boot look when you cleaned your filter?

i ride in some pretty dusty conditions around here and at haspin acres. i never seen any dirt in the boot. i put filter rim grease on the outside of it when i installed it just for good measure.

Do you use the k&n also, or do you use the base with the uni?

i used the UNI filter instead of the K&N. i like foam filters better, but its your preference. you get more flow from the K&N, but i just feel safer with a foam filter.

I am going to try the K&N filter with the k&n foam wrap and and a K&n precharger with the k&n power lid with the K&n precharger on that and possibly remove the snorkel.

That sound like an optimal compromise between safety and performance.

What do you think about removing the snorkel?

What about the filter setup?

just run the precharger on the filter and you should be good. the lid would be a good idea too.

But what do you think about removing the snorkel? With all those filters it would seem to be safe.

Heck, that is a 5-stage filtering system

1)K&N Filter
2)Foam Filter Cover
3)Pre-Charger
4)K&N Power Lid
5)Pre-Charger for the Power Lid

My main concern now, is mostly with water it seems like the water would just build-up more than a foam.

Maybe I should just go with the ultra-safe UNI route, buy I want to try the system above, it sounds like a winner to me. I have no experience with atvs(only cars) so I am worried about the dusty, wet conditions and don't know if I am making a good choice , but I just LOVE K&N products and think they are very high quality.

i don't see hot it would make that big of a dif but i have never used one so idk. 07trx400ex i think you are going for a bit overkill and you would be good with the lid and the k&n with the pre charger i think the foam cover is not going to be needed. i like uni alot better. when i had a k&n there was some dust in my air boot and with the uni there is nothing. i don't even have a precharger now with the uni i just have the prefilter on my um airbox and the uni and i have never had any dust. i ride in alot of dusty areas so i think you should be fine with the lid and whatever filter you get with a precharger. don't forget there are other filters out there too so i would go on rockymountainatv.com and see what you like best.

sorry for the long post

I have done my research, and I don't really want to get a K&N vs. UNI war going. I just wanted to hear other's thoughts on this setup. I think with the foam prefilter you would get the "best of both worlds".

Also, I REALLY REALLY like the Pro Design Pro Flow Air Cleaner Kits.

The air cleaner flange and the o-ring seal allows the air filter to be clamped on, which should allow to have higher flow, and better cleaning efficiency.

After more research, I have decide to go with the UNI Pro Design Air Filter Kit for my piece of mind. If I go the K&N route I know that I will constantly be worrying, thus limiting my fun. Also, since one of the main advantages of a K&N is the increased surface area, I would be negating that by putting a foam pre-filter on top of it. So it would make more sense to just go with a foam filter in the first place.
