Which cam is better for GNCC racing? When my motor was build they installed the Hotcams Stage 2. It doen't make sense to me because the Stage 1 is supposed to give more bottom end power. The stage 2 is more top end power. Should I trade down to the Stage 1? Oh yeah, I have 11:1 compression if that matters.

i have a brand new stage 1 if you wanna trade...

If anyone will answer the question I will consider it.

your cam can never b 2 small....just how much power you want......

well it depends, i would think the stage 2 gives you more topend and the 1 increases low end so for woods , with lots of turns and narrow slower sections i would go with the 1

Stage 1 has higher lift and shorter duration (valves close sooner), which is why it has better bottom end. When the valves close sooner, the piston has more time to build pressure on the compression stroke, hence more bottom end. This configuration is more efficient at lower intake/exhaust velocities. Stage 2 has slightly less lift and more duration. With the valves open slightly less and longer, your motor will produce power in the upper rpm range because it becomes more efficient as intake velocity increases. That's why they used the stage 2 for GNCC, they assumed you'd be running in the upper half of the rpm range most of the time.

So. . . If I am not running in the top half of the rpm range it would benefit me to have the stage 1?

Yeah, if you short-shift, or lug through corners, then I would go with the stage 1. Don't get me wrong, there's still going to be plenty of power everywhere, just more emphasis on bottom. The problem is, most people ride their ex like it's an R.

I have never owned a 2 stroke. So I am assuming that you mean bumping it off the rev limiter all of the time. I do find myself short shifting sometimes.

Yeah, everyone likes to rev the crap out of their bikes. It probably SOUNDS like they're going faster! lol

So, F16 if you had a stage 2 and you rode/raced in the woods, with 11:1 compression would you trade Juggalo?

Read my sig ........ any questions? :)

If you're a "lugger", yes. If you're a "revver", no. You just have to figure out what you are (be honest).

What stage hotcam do you have 440exforme? I don't feel like mine has the bottom end that it should, and I have it norrowed down to the cam. Because everything else is supposed to increase mostly bottom end.

OK in fairness to not so hot cams its their so called error in the tech sheets thats the real problem.

They list the stage1 with a fair amount of lift over the stage2 with a shorter duration (this is very good for bottom to upper mid range torque and would work great for XC) but thats not what they have shipped out. The stage1 I have is the same lift as the stage2 with a shorter duration. its kind of like a xr stage 2(its specs r just above the xr), and deff not anything better than the stage2 not so hot cam.

do a search on cams there were a couple good threads on this and some listed the other brands and how many were the same cam from web etc.

Have fun, I know I am :blah

I hope I do not make this confussing at all, but... I too run hare scrambles with my 416ex. I have a stage 2 Hotcam with a 10.8 to 1 compression. If I run a slip-on exhaust (Yoshimura) with no resistance (no baffle)... The power is unbeliveable!:) I recently did a race with this setup through rocks, tight trails, mud, etc.... Anyway, I found being in 3rd gear, just putting along, then nailing the throttle... The atv had no problem with acceleration with my 215 pound fat butt. Seriously, my atv had no hesitation turning my 22" XCT's or launching me throgh the woods... Unbeliveable!:) ... Only problem I have is I do not want the noise that comes with all this power!

FYI... 40 pilot, 155 main jet, but thinking of making it a 165 with the slip on!:)

Just in case you had not figured it out yet I had the stage1, and they tell me I have one of the first couple made Lucky me :D

ex'r i know they are hard to come by but i run a 13:1 je 416 w/a 450 web cam, some port work, and full exhaust.i had to run a 16t sprocket to calm her down in the woods.i too run 22'' skins.i'm going to try a 479 cam and see what happens then.we'll see

i'm going to try a 479 cam and see what happens then.we'll see Unless you have some other unknown problems I am gonna guess that the 479 should turn it into a torque monster and spin that 16t sprocket no problem.

it already spins it with no problems i'm just exploring al my options with this motor.i;m still working on the clutches if fdo will ever get my springs to me.i'm just still learning alot about this motor....
