Has anyone tried the degree key for the 400EX, I bought one but have not installed it yet. It advances the timing by 6 degrees and is suppose to help out all around power.

For the cost, it is worth it. I like mine.

the key changes your powerband lower. Good mod for 15 bucks, but Duncan racing does not advise using one with the 440 kits

It only hurts your bike if you have a compression above 11:1 no matter what bore size you have (416,425,440,465,505,etc.) It is all the same unless your compression is high. Don't believe me call Four Stroke Tech, or Sparks. Worth the $15 I have one on my 440 with 11:1 compression

what will it do for my bike, i only have a WB R$ pipe, holes in airbox, K+n filter, ground out welds in headpipe, 14tooth front sprocket, will i notice a difference with the key? and what other small mods can i do?

It won't make a big difference, but you will get a small power increase throughout the powerband both bottom end and top end. As for other cheap mods you can do, i heard a lot of people remove the choke from the carb and that makes a difference. Do a search for a choke post or start your own many people do it. I don't know exactly how it works though, because I run an aftermarket carb.

i ride in Pennsylvania, and it gets really cold, will removing the choke affect the starting?
Most likely. You will need to change your pilot jet.
40,42, or 45 are the usual choices.

Installing a degree cam increases the timing 6 deg advanced. This will actually make the bike run cooler at idle and lower rpms. I dont see you needing anymore fuel for just a degree key.
Just remember when installing a degree key you are increasing cylinder pressure. This is something to think about with higher comp engines, fuel additives or race fuel mix might be needed.

My jet suggestion was for the removal of the choke, not for the degree key;)

I think he was refering to using 40,42, or 45 pilot if you remove the choke.
