What would you recommend for a beginner? I have had dirt bikes my whole life and am currently riding a WR 426. Going to do mostly trail riding. Please offer some suggestion. The dealers are no help.

Thanks, Superdude

I would get a 450r, (they take longer to adjust the valves) but you will never be wondering how much faster it is. I was in a similar situation and should have gotten a 450r. You can always lower the gearing and after "modding up a 400" you will have a lot less money invested and the bike will be worth more if you need to sell it. Also, if you ever want to do a race you know you will be ok in the 450r.

I think you missed this (What would you recommend for a beginner? I have had dirt bikes my whole. Going to do mostly trail riding).....id still recommend a 400ex for a novice trail rider.

I don't think a 450 would be too hard for someone to ride with a dirt-bike background. I had never driven a sport quad in my life only(high-performance street cars)
and within 15 minutes of riding I had found the balance point for wheelies and could flip it around by shifting my weight and gassing it, and I had no idea about any techniques I was just trying to find a legal way to have fun.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 400ex and it has plenty of power for me and my style of riding, but lets be honest more power is always more fun. So if you are considering a 450 I would definitely drive both before you buy one.

I really appreciate your insight! Will the 400 wheelie w/o popping the clutch???

It'll do wheelies all day long.

I would get a 450 or hybrid. After owning a 400ex for a month it got boring and felt slow and that was back when i was a little 13 year old.

And that wr426 is much faster than 450.
