Alright make sure you have:

-Feeler guage (you need .004 intake and .005 for exhaust)
-Sockets
-Wrench set
-Large alen key or 1 that hooks onto a socket wrench
-Screw driver
* I think thats all

Alright take off your plastics (front, 2 side panels, remove rear fenders/seat. Then take off your gas tank (make sure the gas was turned off for a bit) and remove the plastic heat guard from the engine thats under the tank. Now that you can see the engine clearly... remove the 4 valve covers. Then remove the 2 alln key looking screws 1 smaller and the other larger where your flywheel is. Stick a socket into the bolt you see when taking off that screw over the flywheel. Turn it around a full engine turn over once I believe. And then turn it until you see a line and a "T" mark on the flywheel through the smaller hole and line it up with the indent on the case inside the hole with the "T" mark. Next stick the feeler gauge inbetween... (someone help me out on this) and see if it is loose or if it has drag when you slide it in and out. If its loose grab a 10mm wrech i believe and a flat head screw driver. Loosen the nut with the wrech, not all the way you just want it able to move. While holding the wrench in place take the screw driver and turn the screw to make it so there is drag on the feeler gauge when you run it through. Once you have the correct amount or good feel hold th screw driver in that same exact place while you tighten the nut back down. And thats it remember .004 intake, .005 exhaust and then reasemble everything how you took it off.

*NOTE*: Make sure the engine is cold when adjusting the valves

When re-installing valve adjuster caps on tappet cover be sure to USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!!! They are a very thin casting and just a little too much muscle will snap them off at the threads.I speak from experience. Other than that the valve adjustment is very easy.

Hotcams have different vavle gap clearance requirements than stock. Try to find a part number and e-mail Hotcams or contact the previous owner to find out what stage it is (1, 2, or 3).
