GT bike....getting one given to me.

Alright, I'm not a hardcore bicycle man, but my cousin is going to give me his bike. I asked about it recently cuz I remember him riding it years ago. It's an older ('99,'00) GT Performer. He's giving it to me since I asked about it and was thinking about doing some BMX for conditioning. He lost one of his legs from the knee down and can't ride it anyways. He said it's like new except for the one tire and a brake cable.....Do you guys think it would be a good bike? After all he is giving it to me.
