I'm doing my first engine build up and curious is Namura pistons are any good? I'm just looking to go standard on the bore but bump up my compression to 11:1. also how do you think a 11:1 and a stage 2 hotcams will perform with a 450 carp, CT Racing Pipe, Uni filter/no lid.

Not sure about the piston, but the rest of the setup will be good. You may want to go up at least one piston size because the cylinder wall may be worn to the point that it needs to be bored. Thats up to you though.

meaning the cylinder is not completely round again? can a machinist tell me if i should bore it out. I know my cylinder walls are mint.

First you would have to get the piston because the aftermarket one may be a few thousandths larger or smaller than the oem piston. Since the piston to cylinder clearance is only .002"-.004" that could be a big difference. But the only way the machinist could tell you if you need a bore or just a hone is if you can give him the piston you plan on using so he can measure it. You could always order two and send back the one you dont use.

I'm 100% with Drew here. I mean if you have an 03 that is still within tolerances for a stock piston that's great but highly unlikely. You need your cylinder checked with a Micrometer in the middle going front to back. The cylinder starts to egg there and then it's time for a bore job. As for the brand, I've heard good things about Namura but I'm just more of a Wiseco kind of guy.

What kind of gain will you see bumping up the comp to 12:1 running cam 2/93 mix?

i have a namura piston in my 04 on a pretty fresh rebuild. its a 20 over 11:1 piston and an hmf exhaust running 100 octane. noticable power gain and no problems. recomended.

Along with what some of the other guys stated... I'd go the first over bore size, order the piston, take the jug to a good machinist and have him fit it. Then file to fit your rings (if you need to or can) and put it together, sounds like it should be pretty nice!
