i totally understand. for the most part, most of the wires are the same color in accordance the their funtion with the exception of Batt wire (black)on 400ex(coming from the ign switch) and (White/yellow) on 250r-serves as Batt(alt) wire.

400ex:....................... 250r:

Br - tail................. Br - tail
G - ground................. G - ground
W - Lo................ W - Lo
Bu - Hi................. Bu - Hi
Bl/w- Ign................. Bl/w - Ign
Bl - batt................ W/y - batt(Alt)

if it'll help. take the 400ex manual and study the wires that come from the light switch harness and mark them with tape the purpose they serve and do same with the 250r harness.

hope this helps. its tough to explain rather than being there lmao

thanks alot randy! i don't think i will be doing a write up on my build but i am going to post alot of pic and stuff about it. what i would like to see is a 250r with the same stuff i have on my build against my exr (thats what i'm calling it) and see what comes out on top. i think my exr may be lighter then a 250r but i'm not sure yet. what is the stock wet wheght of a 250r? i think my exr is going to be around 340-350 range or even less
