water pump leak

leaking fluid bottom of my water pump, already put new o-ring, still leaking. how do i take my impeller off to change some of the other o-rings? on my rmz 450 it just screws off, what am i doing wrong? thanks for the help

youre gonna need to take the clutch cover off to access the water pump internals. also youll need to replace the mechanical seal under the impellar. im positive thats what is causing your leak. not expensive you just have to take the whole impellar out and knock the mechanical seal out of the hole and put the new one in. use a socket the size of the seal to knock the new seal in and re-install. good as new!

i agree, the mechanical seal and another o-ring is what i was going to order from oem picture, not that $. but are talking about taking the entire side of the engine off, all 12 bolts? do i need to drain all the oil and is their a big gasket or o-ring i need to get. sorry, still learning. explain 1 more time on how to get the mechanical seal and impeller apart? again thanks

i would say getting the old seal out of the housing that its in is the hardest part. one little trick is to bend the lip up all the way around the seal ,then it should just pop right out .

yes all 12 just be careful pulling the cover off so you dont tear the gasket as they are reusable. youll see it when you pull the clutch cover off what we are talking about. also head over to z400central and search for mechanical seal replacement. has a lot of pics like cataway showed you.

i have all the parts, pulled everything off ready to go. but i have been on 3 different computers and can not see the pictures on z400 central to put everything back together. can some one help me out. thanks
