Hoe many people on here deer hunt? Last weekend was opening weekend for shotgun. I had to have seen 20 deer that weekend. A lot of does and at least 3 different bucks. All the bucks were really small and/or missing a side. Last night I saw nothin except for 15 turkeys. Tonight I have no clue how many I saw. I know that there were 10 deer within 100 yards at one point, two of which were bucks, a 3 pointer and either a 7 or 8 pointer. I would have shot the larger one if it was later in season but I am gonna be real picky this year. Anyone got any big bucks yet?

Here is the rest of the story. This is the one that almost got away. We saw him earlier with 8 other deer going west away from us up a draw about a half a mile away, he looked like an Elk compared to the other deer. We were done hunting, just standing around BS'n, rifles in the trucks, when he came over a hill south east of us about 100 yards away. I damn near **** when I saw him. Shot him with a 270 between 80 and 100 yards. My cousin also got a 12 point white tail that day. :macho

i hunt a little bit. i know of a couple huge bucks around me. i wont say how big one of them was cuz u guys wont believe me, but i did see it. plus a few smaller ones like 12 to 13 pointers. i havent got out yet this year, but gun season starts this next week. also, where i live, u cant hunt with guns, only bows. they changed it that way, cuz this little town is developing too fast and too many people.

I've been bow huntin' twice this season, rifle season opens the 22nd. The damn mesquitos are still out so I'm waiting on the 1st frost. Haven't seen **** either just a bunch of tracks. There is a huge doe that I did see last year and it's still around so maybe I'll kill her.

I wish we could use rifles, in Indiana all you can use for deer is a shotgun or muzzleloader. I hink it is cause the land is so flat and the bullets would go so much farther and more houses/cars or people would get shot. I keep hopin a large 8 pointer will come. All my friends got big deer already so I am gonna pass up anything that isnt big.

Good job to all you guys who have gotten your deer, and good luck to everyone else. I didn't go home from school last weekend to go hunting on opening morning, so I'm really missing out. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to skip riding over thanksgiving break in order to get a deer.

Nice deer guys. My friend and I were successful this year out here in the West (Utah-Colorado border). My buddy shot what we call a 4 point mule deer here in Utah. We just count the large tine points. With the double eye guards, I guess the Easterners would call this a 12 point. My friend’s deer was 23 inches wide. My deer wasn’t as wide, but really tall (24 inches tall, 20 inches wide). It was a great hunt, we saw several deer larger than the deer we shot on opening morning, but we chose to wait until later in the hunt just in case we saw the “monster” which we never did. We had a great time though. My friend shot his at about 175 yards with a 7mm mag., Speer 160 grain boat tail. I shot mine at only 60 yards and pulverized it with a 300 ultra mag., Barnes 168 grain X bullet.

Here is my deer:

Sounds like you get a bad case of buck fever. To busy looking at the horns instead of aiming at the deer. :devil :D :D

Here in the West we only count the points on one side of the horns, or one horn, and we exclude the eyeguards. So, my friend's deer we call a four point and mine would just be a damn tall three point (LOL). However, if you count total points like they do back East, my friend's would be a 12 point (double eye-guards) and mine would be an 8 point. Sounds different, but that's the way it is out here in the West:D

Either way you look at it, it was a fun hunt and we took some nice deer:macho

I saw Ted's Michigan house the other day on cribs. Wow, he can practice shooting his bow in the basement. And all of the different mounts that he had around the home were amazing. I also like his collection of quads he had sitting around to hunt with. I think he said he has like 2000 acres there.

Also that Durango With The Deer In The Windsheild , That Is A Real Thing That happened About 6 Miles South Of My Work Probally Like 2 Months Ago Now , The Deer Was Up Above On A Overpass & Got Spooked & The Only Place For Him To Go Was Over The Railing Onto The Highway & Thru The Durangos Window He Went, The Craziest Part Is that The Driver Was Unharmed.

I have bad f____ing luck....I went hunting this morning, it was 5:00 and I wasn't even in the woods yet(about 20 yds. away) and I hear something take off running couldn't see nothing there are always 2 does that stay together in that particular spot so I guess it was them. Get in the stand at about 5:15 well I waited and waited but didn't see nothing, put my arrown back in the quiver and get ready to leave then I see somethign out the corner of my eye about 10 yards away for the tree I was in. It was a doe and she knew something was there so I sat as still as I could then she walked around on the other side of the tree, I quickly get the arrow out and on my bow but now she is behind me. I waited and she came back around but was about 50 yrds. away and I didn't have a shot b/c it was too many bushes. get out of my stand, left my bow by the tree and walked the woods to look for scrapings or hookings and I jumped a doe that was bedded down in some brush. So tomorow I will start my rifle season 1 day early.

Why would you shoot a doe:rolleyes:

You must be really hard up for the meat, are you hungary? Got starving kids to feed? Uncontrollable deer population on your land that you just can't control? Really, what's the point of shooting a doe? Must be hard up for the meat:confused:

we are required to kill does here after we kill our first buck. we have to kill 2 does before we are allowed a second buck. we have way too many deer here.....sometimes over 40 can walk past your stand....all does:eek:

Now I understand a little better. We don't have that problem out here in Utah. There just aren't as many deer as there were years ago. We have to protect our does so they will give us more bucks in the future:D

There's so many deer in northern Indiana that are destroying crops that we are allowed 3 antlerless deer in some of the counties, plus our buck, for shotgun season. They want more does taken to try to decrease the numbers a little bit. I also know that the DNR is allowing lottery hunts in some of the state parks because there are so many deer in them destroying all the vegetation.

Went huntin again tonight. Saw 9 deer and a coyote, all within 100 yards at once. There were 2 bucks. One was a six pointer, 4 on one side and two on other. The other buck had a full rack(not missin some like smaller one). It never got close enough for me to tell whether it was a shooter or not. The coyote was a nice blonde color, shoulda shot it.
