I'm about to put my motor together (416 Wiseco, 11:1, stage 1 Hotcam). Has anyone noticed any problems, as far as valve timing is concerned, with running thinner gaskets, or no base gasket (Honda Bond instead)?? If so, does anyone know where I can get an adjustable cam gear? I know lowering the cylinder (to get the right deck height/chamber volume) will retard valve timing, but will it be so much that I notice a power loss?

I can't believe no one offers an adjustable gear. Hey, that could be my ticket to financial independance... now I just need a machine shop and $100k in capital. ....Anyone???

The funny thing is, you know they would sell like hot cakes, and probably only 1% of the people who bought 'em would know how to use 'em! lol

XR's only sells an adjustable cam gear for the xr400 but since it is almost the same motor as the 400ex you can still use it on the ex.

I have a 440 with no base and the cam was right at 107 where it should be ....

Just get a degree wheel and check it ....

It doesn't make too much of a difference. But if you're looking for a little edge, perfection, or want to bump the power band up or down a little then you don't have a choice. Just slot the stock one in a miller to make two arcs and you'll be all set. Reducing the total height by .030" retards the timing about 2.5 degrees at the crank. It would be a good idea to check the piston to valve clearance if you move the cam much.
