I was looking into getting a 16 tooth front sprocket for my 01 400ex and I was wondering if you have to grind down or take off the case saver.

Just checking but are you looking to gain more top speed with this 16t? I thought the 15t was too much already but everyone likes different things.

what rear tires are u running? i do a lot of drag racing. i hole shot in second with 20s in the back and im out of gears before i know it. i plan to switch to 18s soon to lower my stance and i need more top end.

Have you seen this gearing calculator yet? It's a nice way to play with the numbers and see fairly real results.

If you're asking me what tire size, when I was running the stock 20s I had 14/38 gears. Now I have 21s and I run 13/39. I'm not a drag racer but only once a year (woods rider) and the 14/38 with 20's was working out perfect on a 300ft race. Constant pull from start to finish but I'm not exactly a horse jockey if you know what I'm saying............

I found out I have 16/38 but it came with the bike. Not sure what 14/38 would feel like but it has to be crazy. 1st and 2nd are instant wheelie at full throttle. I have to assume with 14 tooth it would wheelie hard in 3rd also. Also 20" tires here. My saver is probably ground down because it is VERY thin. Our sand racing in the dunes is probably close to 400ft or more and this puts me in a good spot at the end.

Goodluck!
