Hi Guys,

Getting ready to order my Houser +1 Standard Travel A-Arms tomorrow. The best deal I have negotiated so far is $459 plus $19 shipping for a brand new set in black.

Does anybody know of a better deal on a new set? Don't want "scratch and dent" clearance items and they must be black.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thats a good deal. I bought some 2 weeks ago and the lowest i could find was 512 shipped for +2s in black. I got them from ATVgalaxy.

That deal is going to be about as good as it gets.

that price is insane. its below dealer cost.
I'd jump on it. just make sure they have them in stock.
Its hard to give deals on houser stuff becuase there isnt much of a mark up on their products

They are in stock.

Houser actually sold some +1/+.5 forward Gray Hammertone "scratch and dent" clearance ones on Ebay for $280 last week... according to Jeff (Houser) it was an accident because the guy that listed them forgot to but a reserve on the auctions! They also sold some Black & Chrome LT versions for the same price by "accident".

They have another set of +1/+.5 forward just like that listed on Ebay now for $400 BIN. He offered them to me for $340. But I want black ones and the Gray Hammertone ones on Ebay are the last clearance ones he said he had.

Could you explain the benefits of +1/+.5 a-arms. What is the purpose of a set of a-arms besides longer travel?

So pretty much, st arms just make it wider and lower which increase the limits for handling and stability?

Thanks for posting the article.

Just as a follow up, after speaking with Houser the +1/+.5 forward are the older models that are no longer made.

Was basically told the the +0 forward worked better on a 400EX and why all of their new ones are made that way.

Im sure youll love them. When i added my +2 arms it was night and day between those and the stock arms. It softened up the 450r shocks to my liking and i was much faster on the track we normally ride at. I even made 2 doubles with ease that i never had the guts to try. I always thought they were a little too far apart for my skills until now.

Yeah 459 for st a arms is awesome! I paid 580 i think for mine when i bought them. But the new LT houser a arms i jsut bought for my 450r i think i got a great deal only 688.

There was a time when motosport.com had +2 Leager LT a arms for the 450r for 600 a pair. I think that was one of the best deals ive ever seen for a brand like that.

For those looking for a deal on some Long Travel Housers, there are 2 listed on Ebay right now. They are clearance items direct from Houser.

The +2 Long Black Silvervein and Chrome Travel Housers are listed for $550 BIN with a Best Offer option. I would bet they could be had for $450-475 Ebay Item #230225813939

The +1 Long Travel Chrome and Black Housers are listed for $650 BIN with a Best Offer option. I know they could be had for $550 Ebay Item #230225811930

They have a few other clearance items listed, even some +3 Long travel.

I have a question to ask. did the +1 a-arms make your front wider than the rear when you sit on it?

Just got them 3 hours ago... and my wife tells me I have to run my company occasionally... so it will probably be a day or two before I get them mounted. :-)

For sure will have them done in time for a weekend ride as long as my brake line kit arrives in time.

With my 3+6 Hiper Rear wheels I don't see that happening. If I recall I am currently right 48 in the rear and 44ish in the front.

Hoping to be around 46ish on the front when done. If I go much wider than that I won't be able to easily get my 400 and my wife's 250 side by side in my toyhauler, which is important to me for all the trips we make. If I load them end to end it makes it hard to open up the fridge when I stop for refreshments during the trip!! Plus, I don't want her stock wheels scratching up my Hipers :-)

03-03-2008, 03:02 PM
why are you so wide in the rear? did you get a different offset from stock? The reason I worry is because I cant be any wider than 45" in the front. I am going to compress my suspension so the a-arms are flat and then measure the front width. Before without any weight it was around 42.5". I'm going to check it now.

Over 1" wider tire and a 1" wider rear wheel with basically the same backspacing as stock wheels.. adds at least 1" to each side.

If I recall I went from +45 to almost 48 in the rear with the new tire/wheel combo.

03-03-2008, 03:15 PM
I just compressed the shoks to where the a-arms were almost flat, I couldnt get it all the way flat but I measured exactly 43" +1" a-arms will bring me out to 45" which is pushing it. I'm not sure if I should go that route or stay stock. If i'm at 43" stock wheels and a-arms and if I got a 4:1 offset wheel and +1 houser, where would that bring me? 44"?

08400EX
03-03-2008, 03:31 PM
My wife was just with me in the garage checking out my new Housers so I got her to measure with me on the 400 and leaning up against the bars to get my "front loaded" width.

I got almost 48 in the rear (probably 47 7/8s) and 44.5" in the front measuring at the top of the tires.

Keep in mind I have Hiper 3+2 fronts so they do add width over the stock wheels. With the +1 arms I will be around 46.5" wide loaded with my weight mostly on the front. Should be perfect for what I want.

With 4+1 Hipers you will lose 2" off that so you would be around 44.5" wide if you are close to 225+ like me and basically stock ride height (chassis) in the front. Less width if you are lighter, depending of course on your shock/spring setup and ride height.

my plans were to get +1 housers with 450r shocks later revalved and resprung. I am just worried about what if I get these and they are too wide for the trails I ride. Somethings you really squeeze through where the rear just makes it or you feel it bounce or scrape the 2 trees. If i am wider in the front than the rear it will just slow me down on the trails and make me break another set of a-arms. How much stronger are aftermarket vs stock? I know houser must be really strong with that extra brace. I'm just debating buy another OEM lower left a-arm or is it time to just go with +1 aftermarket.

I ride in tight areas too, but I think the extra stability will outweight the rare times when it gets that narrow.

You might consider just getting a used replacement arm, then get some cheap used 1" front spacers just to try it with the extra width a few weekends. Then sell the spacers on Ebay and get all or most of your money back. Even if you do decide to get some aftermarket arms it would make sense to have a complete stock set to put back on if you ever trade or buy a newer 400.... or even sell it. You will always make more money selling the aftermarket parts seperately vs selling them on the quad.

03-03-2008, 03:51 PM
My quad is a keeper for life though. Even it the day comes where theres no more gas it was my dream quad as a kid I will keep it in a showroom. I tried finding +1 housers used and they wanted like $400 or so for them. Why pay that when you can get brand new for a few bucks extra.

Have them and love them so far. I also have a Teixeira Tech +2 chrome steering stem w/ a house anti vibe clamps. Ed makes some killer products I paid 250 for the stem and 500 for the a-arms.

I have been looking at the same arms on eBay and have been emailing Jeff @ Houser as well. I have a question though ...

I originally thought of doing +1's to simply even out the front with the rear. Then I started wondering how much of a difference two inches is really going to make for the ~$500 I'd spend.

So then I decided I would do +2 Housers with an adjustable RPM axle in the rear to get the entire thing wider and even out the front and rear.

I guess my question is how much difference will I notice between the two setups? It just doesn't seem like 2 inches will make that big of a difference? BTW, I'm running ST Elka's front/rear.
