Just got some new Maier front fenders and compared them to my OEM and there no mounting spots to mount them. Some of them can be added but some can not. Can anyone tell me how these are to attach to my 86 r? How does the black air box in the front below the fenders attach? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Usually you ditch the shark mouth. The maier hood screws go in from the top into the little metal inserts on the fenders. The two side screws will still mount with the little metal plates with a slot and hole(make sure to use washers on the outside to keep them from pulling through.

My Maier fenders are all plastic, no metal whatsoever. So do I drill holes through the Maier fenders and mount to the brackets from the frame and using bolts and nuts? And I guess the rubber mounts that were used from the factory fenders do not get used at all now since my Maier fenders have no place to mount them? I guess when I ordered them I thought it would mount the same as the OEM. These are not the shiny fenders either, and are not race fenders, if that makes a difference.

if you are wanting to use the shark nose. you'll need to fab some brackets that will connect the nose to the fenders(PITA) as for the remainder of the mounts you'll need to carefully align things and go from there. i personally preferr the OEM hood as opposed to the Maier you should still be able to make use of the lil rubber mounts right next to the seat en tank.

good luck:cool:

The maier fenders don't have two holes already in the sides? My maiers came with a bunch of metal brackets, screws, and instructions. They should have two metal brackets for the side, and two L shaped brackets for the bottom mounts.

Oliver 550 huh? I've spent many hours on one of those, I think our farm has about 5-6 of them now. I can't wait till we make the complete switch to diesel tractors...;)

My Maiers are a 2 piece full fender design. It uses 2 L-brackets and 2 angle brackets total. Two angle brackets at the top near the hood and the 2 L-brackets at the bottom rear of the front fenders. It's slotted for a velcro strap to go over the fuel tank at the rear.

I have a 1959 Oliver 550 Diesel tractor that I have had for about 10 years.

So on the fenders are you saying that I will have exposed bolts on the outside of the fenders where the fender mounts to the adapters that mount to the frame brackets? I guess I will have to make some brackets to mount to the existing frame brackets and find some type of fender bolts.

Yes. Mine uses philips panhead 1/4-20 machine screws with nyloc nuts.
