i got a good idea of my equipment needed to just run what these guys are calling a "nobby " class which i was told i can run my holeshots..my question is this i have a ton of power now with a 15/40 gearing on 19 inch mxr4's i think it runs about 60 to 65
i think how fast do theseguys go ? i've never raced flat track.
i was told its an 1/8 mile oval any help would be great if i need more topend i have a 16/39 that gives me more around 70 to 75
again these are just ballpark guess's i have about 2 weeks to be ready and not make a fool of myself.. i was also told the nobby class was mostly all beginners so maybe i'll do ok . i want to try it out to see if i like it! lol anyone here race flat track around louisianna/mississippi/alabama area????
thanks

Ive raced flat track three times but it was in a arena so I didnt get out of 4th with 15/38 gearing on 18" hoosiers. Your biggest bennefit will be to get it as low as you can and get a swaybar. Also something like a kenda klaw mxr or a turf tamer might handle a little better than the mxr4 on flat track.

I was gonna race my 400ex flat track, but we might be picking up a banshee tomorow and im gonna race that to keep up with the 450's and such. The 400's get killed out there if they're stock.

I cant wait till the season starts!

I wouldn't say the 400's get killed. I raced 3 flat track races last year on a stock 400 motor. the "balls" to hold it WOT and keeping the suspension low is more important then the motor. I was racing against 450's, bansee's, raptor 700's and finished 3rd.

You want some tires that will let you slide on the corners and hook up in the straights.

Out where I race, I will get killed. I have no problem holding it WOT and flingin around turns, but theres a couple guys out there that are amazing.

2 of the YFZ450's are built balls to the wall and the riders are really good. They always win, but it isnt fair because they should be in the outlaw class, not the amature.
Then there a Doug Gust wannabe. He has an identical ltr as Dougs and he has such smooth lines.

There is only 1 banshee out there, but he sucks. I think I can do pretty good if I set the shee up right.

i have yfz450 and 400ex stock motors and have no problem im usaully 1 or 2 agaist proam riders you just need to learn how to ride ,go in croners harder and only use your front brakes i never touch the the rear brakes

the biggest thing about flattrack is the holeshot but i mainly race flat track and honestly ill never leave 3rd with the stock gearing. but swaybar is a definate and lower your quad a few inches front and rear. but i would definately consider running 18's in the rear. and for the record i beat my cousins stroked 450r with my 440 last year.. wasnt all the time but shows it can happen

thats true except hole shot if your good enough you can catch up but yea you want the hole shot so you can run your line and no one in your way

i raced go karts for a few years, and my home track was a high banked 1/8 mile and on a fast night we were running 10.6s-10.9s thats about 50-55 mph...and we were HOOKED up..u shouldnt have much to worry about when it comes to top speed
