where's the back brakes?

I like having back brakes even on my stock 400ex!I would get those working before I touched that beast.

Used have a zilla motor in a tricked out 92 LT250r frame.Yeah it was fast. But it was to much for anything but a wide open area or a track.LRD built the motor and the pipe.

I also had a cr500.You would have to lean the bike over till gas came out the overflow. Then it would fire right up.Stupid fast.

My honest opinion is that it's ugly, but should still be a rocket!

What do you plan on doing with this thing?

00.400ex#55
02-25-2008, 02:34 PM
ahh who needs a rear brake. skid riped off the back and bent the sproket aswell as the break disc. got a new sproket but didnt bother with a disk. i rearly used it anyways.

i just biult it to screw around on. it will be mostly driven on country roads as well as some trails an mx.

Always have the good ole reliable 4 stroke as a back up.

I agree with you and you should really get a back break for it and get some a arms insted of flipped rims.

i bet that thing hauls *****. i gotta question, how is running flipped rims on a 400ex possible? i flipped mine just to see what it would look like.. and i was bored. the valve stem hit the brake caliper.

00.400ex#55
02-25-2008, 03:00 PM
hmm i guess ya either love it or hate it. i didnt wana be like everyone else out there an do a red/blk or blue/blk bike. wanted to be origonal and people will definatly see me comin down the road nvm hear it a few miles away. its way too loud i gota do somthin about it. on par with a damn monster truck.

i dont see the problem with fliped rims. works fine and is definatly beter then stock. you gota put 3 washers on each stud. still has enough room to get the nut on.

02-25-2008, 03:09 PM
yeah CR500 are stupid fast. Not sure how it is on a quad but on a dirtbike you cant hit whoops really and you have to do quick revs and ue the clutch so much so your wrist doesnt shake and send you flying into something. My uncle has 1 and its the biggest waste of anything I have ever seen. Its really uncontrolable. Maybe on a quad its different, more weight and more traction and a thumb throttle but on a dirtbike its just dumb.

you got a cr500 engine 400ex blacked out with lime green accents with no rear brakes and flipped front rims washers on the wheel studs so nuts with a few threads holding it on.:eek2: one badarse ride haha::devil:

yeah, with disc brakes on the front youll hack that valve stem off, your safest bet with flipped rims are to weld the original hole up tight and drill a hole on the new outer side of the rim and relocate the stem.

persoanlly, not a fan of the green, but other than that looks sick.

just take the valve stem out and put it in backwards and drill a hole for a new one on the other side. but don't' flip your rims every time someone flips there rims god kills a kitten lol. i saw that in someones profile

thats 400exrider707, he is really good with suspension and flipped rims mostly dont help it handle better, i think thats why thats in his sig.

02-25-2008, 06:45 PM
hahaha ok enough about the fliped rims. been runin em like that for over a year and havent had a problem yet.

vibration isnt that bad. personaly i think solid mounting it the way to go when you realy think about it. the frame is stiffend like crazy. it probly weighs 20lbs more then the stock one. i used 6lbs of welding wire alone and half of a junker frame for bracing. break on me now *****

cant realy coment on how fast it is becuase its only been on ice and snow. but itl strand the wheels up in 4th on a packed snow coverd trail. havent had it to 5th yet, cant wait for some road riding.:blah:

first of all, the bottom eye is widder then the top so the wont bolt on upside down?

secondly, instead of just pointing it out an trying to be mr.knowitall, it would be nice to show me what exactly is wrong if, it is at all.

my onl question i have is.......how long is that chain slide gonna last on your swingarm like that? thats one heck of an angle from swingarm pivot to front sprocket. other than that cool build. I always wanted to put one in my old 250r. but i sold it.

00.400ex#55
02-25-2008, 09:57 PM
dunno well see. lasted a few hours so far an dosent have much wear.

Yeah sorry, I'm a knob. It's been a while since I've had a 400ex and that black shaft guard isn't on yours so it threw me off, lol and compared to 450r shocks they do look upside down :)

Not bashing it or anything, just that if you ever do a revision on this build maybe lift the engine a little higher if possible.. so you don't have that awkward chain angle. Like I said, if it's possible.

That thing looks scary!!!! and not in a bad way either...you've got to have some balls to ride that lol...please send us some videos of that beast.

well im back, my acount was banned for a bit and im not sure why???

anyways heres a vid of the quad lifting the front tires in third with a half blown motor. during that ride it was only making 105psi and this is what the pistons looked like afterwards. piston on the right is the one that came out right after the vid was shot. not even sure how it was runing let alone pull the tires up at nearly 60.

me and a couple of my friends have been wanting to do this, do you have any suggestions on fabricating or anything else? did it fit well in the 400ex frame?

awesome quad, i like the colors too!!

00.400ex#55
04-10-2008, 01:04 PM
its so much my fun, even with a piston that looked like that ( i had 2 hours on that) it would pull from a 450r easily. i cant wait to see what i does on the dyno and have it tuned to realy see what it can do.

and vibration, THERE IS ALMOST NONE!

the first time i did this it was unbearable, but thats beacuse my mounts craked, i did it again and it is all solid mounting. i probly added at least 20lbs to the frame in bracing and gusseting. the only sugestions i have are to overbuild everything, and by alot, and just take your time it will come out great!

Is that a 250R pipe?

from the looks of it, it is, why didnt you use a CR500 pipe?

00.400ex#55
04-10-2008, 05:37 PM
fmf fatty 250r big bore pipe. the motor i bought came out of a 400ex, so it came almost ready to fit. im gona give it a try and if i dont like it il try either cuting an moding a cr500 pipe, or having one made.

Sick bike not much of a fan of the green but its pulls it off. What are your plans for it? Drag racing?

04-10-2008, 07:50 PM
CR500 engine in a quad is done by two people...a rich guy with way to much money who does everything amazing and has a look cleaner than stock, and the guy who picked an engine up for a cheap and just had to do it. I give yah props for pulling it off, but you could have made it so much nicer! I mean, cutting the rear fender to clear the kick starter? All the rich guys rig the seat and fenders to pivot open like a hood on a car.

quadboy38
04-10-2008, 08:32 PM
these so called "rich" guys are using aftermarket 250r frames with fliptop subframes not 400ex frames.

Honda_Matt

So, were you running way too lean? why did it blow up after 2 hrs ?

Honda_Matt
04-10-2008, 09:51 PM
I know 2 strokes are tuned to their exhaust, and if you dont have the right exhust it won't run right.

Theres a possibility that's the problem.

I wish I could find CR500 motor, mannnnn.

Honda_Matt
04-10-2008, 09:54 PM
also, what's with the picture of the 2 damaged pistons? CR500 is a single cylinder, you blew it up twice?

00.400ex#55
04-11-2008, 02:46 PM
haha yup. blew it twice. its runing waaay to lean, but for some reason i got a little exited and rode it anyways.
im dumb

and no im not rich, im 19 and have a good bit of time to screw around.

Honda_Matt
04-11-2008, 04:15 PM
Dude, jet's are only $6...

New pistons cost a heck of a lot more than that.

What's it doing to the cylinder, Im sure with pistons that look like that it AT LEAST needs to be Honed if not bored over.

You can only go 80 over before you have to replace the cylinder or sleeve.

00.400ex#55
04-11-2008, 04:41 PM
well no ****

that was its final bore, waiten for the new parts to come in its being resleved. im waiting on some guys dyno to be ready becuase its still not comletly installed so i was bored and rode it.
its my entirly my fault and im paying for it now, but im ok with it il have her runing great in a week or 2.
