Engine finally installed

I'll post in this thread as I assemble it. It's a slow process, I'm taking my sweet time and cleaning everything up--which isn't easy to do with 8 year old parts.

I decided not to venture too far from the OE color of the frame due to my decision of the color of the suspension components and engine. When I went to the powdercoating shop, the steel grey color jumped out at me so I went with it.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. When I'm done, I'll post a before pic. My wreck last September set this project in motion.

Here are a few more shots--I need to move some wiring around to its final locatioin. Also, the C&D revalved rear shock features a blue spring. It'll stick out like a sore thumb.

I haven't decided whether or not to leave the stock hubs red, or PC them black or Grey?

Black or Silver--good idea, never thought of that.

I wish shock companies had like a choice in colors for the springs and such. I was red or black spring on my quad. My brother has a blue Works in the rear and its very noticable but it just doesnt seem to fit. He says " I like my shock being blue so people look and be like oh dang that nig is rollin in aftermarket" as I shake my head and laugh lol

Blue spring needs to go other than that very good lookin quad you have.

I'm not a big fan of shock covers so I'd PC the spring black to match the fronts. I love the PC color you chose for the frame and yes, you need to match the hubs. I'm glad I did mine.

Believe it or not, I think that grey color with the black is one of the sickest color shcemes I ever saw! It looks hot!

Once I get some money rollin in from mowin lawns and such, expect to see a build up thread for me.
Lollipop red frame, +2 red arms, red swinger, +2 axle, widow or elka shocks, hotcam, piston, 08 black plastics.

With the header, if you want there is paint that you can paint the header, black or such, or it will stay on there, I think that would look sooooo cool!! Looking awsome. Any that grey PC is growing on me. Also, if you ever deside to change your plastic color, your frame will go with that. Say you have red plastic, and get red PC, and later you say Wow, I want to get some yellow plastic, but you cant. With grey it goes with everything.

Keep us updated, ON EVERYTHING!! ;)

The header is going to stay as it is. I haven't decided whether or not the stock heat shield will be reinstalled. Hopefully it will be a rolling chassis next weekend. Can't wait to install the Silver Maier plastics, they're sitting in my spare bedroom.

Well, if you want the heat shield to look cool, you can do what I did.

The aluminum was kind of pitted and ugly on my DMC heat shield, so I Painted it with just regular black paint.

Isnt melting off and looks cool.

that thing looks extremely sweet. I love the way the bottom end looks in black. Will dirt bake onto the pc the way it does normally on motors? if so how will you keep it from sticking? i know you dont want all that time and money to get ruined by dirt baked on, that crap is tedious and almost impossible to remove

Sweet build! I can hardly wait to see and hear how it turned out!

I see the adapter worked well for you!

Thanks for the compliment.

That adapter is a work of art, fit snug and I no longer have to dread removing the airbox due to the extremely tight fit of the intake tube over the carb.

Thanks ZR!!

wow that looks awesome!

with some different wheels and tires that would really be a sick quad

Wheelie
03-23-2008, 03:16 PM
Thanks.

The wheels and tires weren't a big concern. I ride about 70% dunes anymore and my dunes wheels are all polished ITP's.

I guess I should've taken the pictures with my sand tires on?

I love it. The fit and finish of it is excellent. I also like the removable quiet core it came with. In a couple minutes I can go from 93db to fairly loud, or the other way around. It's nice having the option to go quiet--some of the Oregon dunes require it.

JnBlaster--

The fan was easy to wire up. I just tapped into the main wire coming off the solenoid and wired in a toggle switch--if you look closely at the pics you can see the orange toggle switch near the ignition switch. I tapped the wire coming off the solenoid so the fan could be powered off a fused source.

Haven't ridden the quad enough yet to thoroughly test the fan out. It moves alot of air and I think it's going to work great.

That's the way the shock looked after I got it back from C&D, I didn't request blue. At first I didn't like it, now that the quad is done, I think it adds a nice touch.

C&D did a great job on the rear shock, I would highly recommend their work. Very fast and very helpful.

My favorite part is the engine! I've been debating that for my own EX. The red hubs and blue spring need to go. They make it look unfinished.
