Alright,

Here's the scoop. These two linkage pieces are the same length. One came with the 87 that I bought, the other came on a 88|89 swingarm.

The red one is the 87 and the blue 88|89. They are the exact same length, but the diameter of the hole for the bolt on the shock-end side (rear) is too small for the steel linkage bushings to go in. See the #'s in the first pic.

I thought I was going to swap out those bearings and plop right into the blue one and bolt up but I got stuck last night! :(

Thanks in adance for all help!

the only year that used a smaller bottom shock bolt was a 85, so, what you have there is a 85 model linkege on the 87, on the peice that goes on the dog bone, the bushing will be too small also, I'm betting you have a 85 dogbone also. I have ran into this, as I have/had 85 and 86 trikes and a 86 quad, lots of mixed up parts.

Thanks! Looks like I will have to get the red one blasted and coated to match...:(

That sucks! I thought only dogbones were different size. I guess that's why Pivot Works says 86-89 are the same linkage sets.

Thanks for the info bud!

the pieces for the 86-89 I believe fit into the 85, atleast I know the dogbone pieces do. 87-89 had a shorter dogbone and 85/86 had the longer ones.
