Alrite, i know that the 400ex engine is derived from the XR400 but can anyone tell me what year of XR is the same as my 400ex 2005 as its so much easier to get parts for the XR than for the EX where im from. Its mainly a clutch hub (boss) im looking for but the part numbers on the site im using for parts aren't the same - MR Cycles. What site does everyone use? I usually use bike bandit but they dont make the clutch hub.

mrcycles.com is a good one to use, but they should all have the same part numbers.

I personally would stick with the 400EX part numbers to avoid issues. A would think a Honda dealer should be able to get those as easy or easier than the XR since the EX is still made, no matter what country they are in.

Have you tried North Harbour Motorcycles in Ayrshire ?? I have heard they are one of the larger Honda dealers in that area.

2005 is when the engines got a little more different than a XR, the engine case, transmission, and other parts are totally different. The clutch is smaller on a xr than a 400ex so the clutch wont interchange. The gaskets, head, cylinder, and things like that are the same.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought it might be slightly different since the 05 has reverseso the casing might be larger or a different shape. Would the clutch gasket be the same?
