does anyone here use a front or rear rack? if so can you post a pic of it? I am considering one for part time use on my '03.

I do realize that most 400ex riders are purely Sport/race type riders, and a rack is something that most folks here dont want. but,...

I will occaisionally use mine on hunting trips, and would like to have the option of putting on a rear/front rack just for those trips.
(I would remove them for desert riding)

I have seen a few of these types of racks on ebay, but would like to see how one mounts/looks before I buy them.

also I want to know if it is necessary to drill more holes for mounting, or do they use factory mounting points only.

rear rack (http://www.jokersracing.com/content-product_info/product_id-1990/honda_trx_400ex_cargo_rack_with_straps_prm_atv.htm l)
Here is an interesting one I found. I wish i knew how much longer it would make my 400ex.

PRM makes good stuff. Email them and ask.

Here is more of a utility styled one, it also doesn't look to stick out past the grab bar.

The one 08400EX found looks like you will have to remove it anytime you want to take the seat/fender off.

This is correct for the 99-07 400s. The 250EX and some newer models would be OK.

FYI, I have seen this rack in person and removing it would only take a minute or less.

I bought one for my wife's 250EX to use when she wants to spray the trees etc. with our 21 gallon ATV Power chemical sprayer (had it for the Foreman we used to have). Unfortunately the rack arrived but the 250EX mounting kit was discontinued so we returned the rack.

They still have the kit for the 400s, but since her 250 is already setup as the part time workhorse around here (pulls trailer in the woods for firewood, fence mending etc.) I just couldn't stomach putting that rack on my 400 :-)

Here is a pic of it on a 250EX.

heck, why not use it for utility work. It basically is a recon with sportier plastics:p

No, I found that pic in the 250EX forum when I was researching racks for her.

True, and different gearing. The reason I like to use it for "work" (other than the obvious sin to use my 400 that way) is because of the Sport Clutch. It is handier for things like that with it's automatic clutch. Heck so far it has hauled as much wood in the trailer up out of the woods as the Foreman 500 I used to have.

Any luck finding a rack? I'm looking to put one on my ex too for the same reasons. They're so expensive, I decided I'm going to build my own. I bought a front and rear rack for a utility in an auction for $13, I'm going to try to modify them to work.

Hi red_kwad,
yes I did find a couple of racks to fit my 400ex, and the wifes 250ex.
I have not yet bought the front racks.
If you would like me to send you some pics of the mounts, for you to get an idea of how to mount them, I will be happy to do that for you.
