I made a top speed run on pavement yesterday with the 14 tooth front sprocket.

For those of you who are curious, it was 63.1 mph on a portable GPS unit. I was affraid to hold the revs any longer in 5th gear for the engine was really spinning.

I had 63.3 so that is really close. I hit 72 with the 16 tooth

Not that I'm knocking your bike, but somthing ain't right! My bike with a stock bore, cam, and X-6 pipe ran 74.9 with 14 T and 77.3 with 15 T. But I also have a 36 T rear. That might be the diff. You should get the 36 rear. It really helped mine. I had a 16 on the front before and it felt like I lost bottom end. The 36 is not like that at all. I lost no bottom and gained mid and top. I think you would be super satisfied with a 36. What kind of riding do you do?

I have stock gearing and get 61mph on my GPS. I admit I don't understand why there is such a variation in top speeds. I only weigh 180lbs and the throttle is properly adjusted. If you can hit 63 then your ahead of me.

Theres something wrong if ur only doing 63 with a 440 kit. i got clocked at almost 70 with stock gearing and motor execpt a pipe.

14t-63mph
15t-68mph
16t-72mph

That's always what I've heard it seems about right to me.

I THINK CHEETA IS RIGHT, BECAUSE THE GEARING CALCULATORS SAY THERE IS APPROX. A 4MPH DROP IN TOP SPEED FROM A 15T TO A 14T CS. FOR WOODS RIDING THE 14T IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!:D

I would stay with a 15 tooth for woods cuz had a 14th on and i did good in the tiht woods but as soon as we got in open fields, i got smoked. I keeping 15 tooth up front and im going to drop to a 36 in the rear

Power is irrelavant here, for even a stock bike on pavement will be able to wind out 5th gear with the 14, 15, or 16 tooth.

Nothing is wrong with my 440. If both bikes have the same gearing, they will pull the same top speeds on pavement whether they make 15 for 40 HP. The more powerfull bike just gets there faster - DUH.

I was just posting my findings with the 14 tooth.

My other 400EX has a slip on and runs 68 mph with the stock gearing.

My 440 runs 73 with a 16 tooth then it runs out of revs. It can pull higher gearing but why?

GOOD POINT! I DREAD THE OPEN RUNS AS I TOO GET PASSED BADLY(PIPED 300EX'S!!!!). I RECENTLY PUT MY 15T BACK ON TO RESTORE MY PRIDE. WON'T A 36T REAR ROB ME OF MORE BOTTOM END HIT?:o

36 is suppose to be perfect....it doesnt take any bottom away but adds some mid and top speed.
