so i bought a fan from 08400ex (great guy to deal with) got it in the mail yesterday and installed today. all it took was some aluminum strap to mount it and it is good to go. wired it up to a toggle switch and its good to go. thanks again to 08400ex on the great deal. i will post pics later tonight when i get home

note the way the fan is mounted. turning it that way was important. any other way i would have had to cut the gas tank shield under the gas tank. unreal how much air this thing moves. it is bad.

very cool mod. do you have anyway to monitor the oil temperatures? kind of like a before and after thing? would you also be able to show exactly how you wired it up?

nothing to check temp yet.
just wired to a toggle switch.

as far as power goes, do you just run it in series off the battery?

That's a pretty nice and simple install. If you think about it, the oil cooler is simply a heat exchanger. The more air that flows across it, the more heat is drawn from the oil into the air. Having a fan on it would tremendously increase the cooler's efficiency at lower speeds when air isn't rushing across it.

You should get one of those XR's only temp dipsticks and monitor the temp with and without the fan running, i'd be curious to see the real world difference. I'm also curious how you wired everything up, what kind of draw does that SPAL fan take?

Here is the spec sheet. Amp Draw is around 2 amps, practically nothing for what it does.

yes that is exactly the way i do it. i used a lighted switch so i could tell if it is on or not from a distance

another thing i like is that the fan is going to cool the head a bit as well. with the placement and how much air it actually moves i am wondering if i even need the oversized oil tank.

that is just a wire. but i did find 2 blaces where the frame is broken in the front on some welds. i am going to weld them up here in a few minutes and make a gusset kit. good eye by the way

I don't know, yours is one of the (if not the) baddest looking ones on there, those pics are pretty classic and look cool!

I will say in all honesty for the "stock looking catagory" that the one from F_16Guy is also pretty sharp, very clean for a 2000 model! It makes me wonder if those pics were taken 7-8 years ago... even thou I know they aren't because of the 450R shocks! It looks like it has been in a time capsule.. or recently restored!!

It is nice to see some there I haven't seen elsewhere... well except for a few "off-brands"

went and rode some dunes today. man its already getting hot. almost 80 again today. which was good because i got to try out the new fan and it works great. i dont know how well yet because i dont yet have a way to tell the temp but can tell by how it starts as to how hot it is. the fan works awsome. anyone with a big bore should do this mod. any help i can be to anyone just ask
