I've been reading some posts on a 416 VS a Raptor but what will a 440 do against a Raptor??? Also... I heard that once you build up a 400 to a 440 or so that the famous "honda reliability" goes down a lot and you'll have to do a lot more fussing and rebuilds? is this true???
Thanks

my 440 has been running strong for 2 years now, this 440 won the mega series in 2000, still strong today, it's like with anything service it, it will last

440 has relability and will take a raptor in the drags if it is built right, (piston, cam, etc.). The 440 will run non-stop for years if you treat it right. Of course the smaller the bore the more reliable, but the 440 will last.

Change the oil often, always use a clean air filter. The usual maintance items. I had my 440 in for nearly 2 years with zero problems.
Cost can vary, just piston/sleeve kit will run about $250-$300. If you bore and stoke it to a 440 will run closer to $1800. But I hear it is worth it! :devil

So is there anything between the 416 and the 440??? if so what are the benefits to each one??? Obviously the bigger the bore the more power but isn't there anything else??

I've heard that the 416 revs faster than the 440, making it quicker. but your right the 440 should produce more power. oynot400 is right that stroking to 440 is worth it, but it's a lot more work goes into the job. splitting the cases, sending the crank to have work done, but I'm happy. In answer to your first question about the raptor, I have no trouble beating raptors in a drag, i'm not sure about top speed. I would probobly get beat, I didn't gear up a whole lot. Hope this helps.

sparks claims that his 416 national kit will beat out other companys 440's

this is off of sparks site :

We have heard from a number of riders out there that have put their Sparks Racing 416 National Motor against other companies 440 National motors and ate them up. This kit is a collection of components that really work well with the 400EX motor. Sparks Racing delivers Championship performance and Quality workmanship to you. There are some options, such as carbs and reliability options. If you have any questions please contact us

Good for Sparks, he seems to have his ***** figured out. Powroll says stroked 440's will beat bored 440's.

Which mods? Sparks, Powroll, TC, LRD, FDO? They should do them all. I enjoyed the 440ex vs. 440z. Except the ex lost in every catagory. oh well.

the only kit i know of between 416 and 440 is the 425. Which is what i have. I use all TC internals. Screw sparks, if im going to spend over 3k on an engine, im gonna go with a TC500 stroker kit. Which will DESTROY his 416 kit anywhere. I dont care what he sais. If u consider a 440 kit, something like u see in the magazines that consists of, piston, sleeve, and gasket kit....save your money. Save up and get some work done from a builder. Those bolt on kits arent going to produce that much more power by themselves. U need the thing to breathe with a cam and exhaust. Just slapping a bigger piston in there is just putting more mass in your engine. And still trying to run off the same amount of fuel, and still trying to push it out the same size exhaust ports. U need the ports to open up more if u want performance. And thats what a good cam will do

so which one will last longer..... to stroke a motor costs 3 grand??:huh interesting..... well that is a ways off.... by the time im ready to do that kind of work I would probably just give my 400 to my girlfriend and buy the (2006 fuel injected 450 R quad:macho )<--- that would be sweet!! Thanks for the replys

No it doesnt cost 3k to stroke a motor. It costs 3k for Curtis sparks 416 kit. Sure it prob. does run likea mofo im not arguing with that. But i think my 425 will run right with it. And i have half that in mine. It only costs around.......5-600 to get a differant crank.
