i am getting a 450 in the next 4 mounths and am trying to decided on which on. i ride a crf250r now so i will be used to the power however i also ride a trx 250ex on trails. i want a 450 for track and trails. i like the ltr because of the power. but i like the trx and yfz be cause they are not to wide for the trail. i have had hondas my whole life and would like to get the trx but maybe its time to change.

well if you get an LTR kiss goodbye to those trails. Its stupid if you ask me to make something that wide from the factory where it an only be used in MX or TT. YFZ are alright, i hte how they sit so low handle bars and all its uncomfortable to me and i just dont like them. TRX450r on the other hand is my favorite. Not just because its a Honda but because its not too wide, it handles good, looks good, has power to make it do what you want it to, and you know you wont have problems with a Honda.

well if your keepin the 250EX then you still got a wide variety it all just depends on what you wanna spend. the ltr comes pretty much set to an mx stance, set of revalves, bars and a cherry bomb and you can be competitive. But if your plannin on racing competitively with the TRX or YFZ its at least gonna take a set of a-arms, axle and revalves or aftermarkets on the suspension then meaning you are back to where you was on the LTR, too wide and too low for tight rough trails

you will need to think about ground clearance with the ltr also, with the little 18" tires those things drag on every rut/root/rock

the R and yfz are both due for tech. performance upgrades
(they have not changed since 06) but that tells you honda and
yamaha put out some good stuff if they can just change color/graphics etc. and keep on top

imo ktm might be the best on the market right now

if you have rode honda's up to now you know they are well made

You might as well sell the 250 because once you ride ANY new 450 you'll never want to ride the little one again!! Everyone else has covered the basics for your decision. The LTR is biased for MX and would be hard to trail ride being so wide and low, the YFZ and TRX are both good bikes, and you need to see which is more comfortable for you. The YFZ has the bars too low and the seat too high in my opionion, but maybe its good for you. The TRX is a terrific all around bike with huge balls and with the HRC kit is an animal. The TRX450R is the best all around bike out there. But asking this question in a TRX450R forum isnt going to get you an unbiased answer!! RIDE RED!!

Out of the three you listed the TRX450R would be the best choice.

The following 450's are better than the three you listed:

Ktm 450xc(i really want the 450mx when its released)
Can am ds450
KFX 450R
Polaris 450mxr

Id look at these 4 instead of the other 3. There my top choices for a new 450 come next year.

yeah i no but i posted the samething in all 3 forums but i will probly end up with a trx or ltr because the trx is best all around but the white ltr looks so damn good. so it will come down to how much money i have at the time becuase i would be fine with any 450

Dont do an LTR. My buddy just bought a brand new 08. They claim from factory that it is race ready out of the factory. Well he did the normal break in period in his backyard and a week after he owned it and was broken in we took it to the Indoor track. While at the track he started leaking oil from the bottom of case. turned out to be a bad gasket. and I was just about to fly past him to hit the tabletop and his exhaust fell off as well, (stock exhaust bolts snapped) and now hes having electrical problems. Dealership wont do crap for him and its still bone stock other than the ebrake block off. Thats enough to keep me away from an LTR for a few years. I say go with Honda.

I am going through the same thing as you though i am buying mine used i am moving from a 300ex though. I chose the 450R good luck with your choice though i think a 450R would be a the best choice. Though the KFX is very nice.

even with reverse I would put the kfx behind the yfz/trx
the ones I have rode with just cant keep up

I would even put the 700 raptor ahead of the kfx

1. trx
2. yfz
3. ktm
4. rapy
5. kfx/ltr

not sold on ds or polaris

The KFX is really nice, Ive ridden a couple and they are quick, but look at the charts....there arent many placing to great. And what do you mean the reverse? The honda has reverse!!! Hit the gas and turn the wheel. (it works in really tight areas too) Im pro honda all the way. Ive had 3 yamaha's in my life and just not very fond of them. Had 2 suzuki's and ill never do that again other than my wifes. All ive ever had that was Kawi was a dirtbike and it ran like a bat outta hell but had issues with bottom end. Honda is the only bike ive ever owned that hasnt had serious issues while i owned them. Good luck with your choice I would say get the Honda or the Kawi. That toss up is with you.

in my opinion don't get a ltr or kfx because they are junk!!!
last year my dad bought a brand new kfx450r and it ran good and all but he had so many problems as well as everyone else who races....at the beginning of the year there were 5 kfx's at the end there was 1....They have to be rebuilt half way through the season and people have problems with the fuel injection.

As with the ltr they are having basically the same problems but hold up a bit longer.

So this year we are racing trx450r's in GNCC, AWRCS, and CRA

Good luck with your choice. I have only owned 1 450 and its a YFZ450. I like how the power comes in. I have never a a single problem out of it. The only thing I hate is the Stiff throttle if you ride for long periods.

I wrote yesterday with 2 LTR's 1KFX 1 TRX and Renagade 800. In a 6 wide drag race 660 feet It was the 2 LTR's and my YFZ close for 1st. None of the quads was stock tho.

I say the YFZ450 is a all around good Quad,Trails,MX. Iam competive with stock Suspension when I race MX.

660' is crazy, thats just a "who has the tallest gear" race

after 350' they where prob. all at top end, just holding it pinned in top gear? just to see who was at 81mph and who was at 82?

to win that "no skilled" race just put 22" tires or run a 16 tooth front sprocket

I do like the way the yfz comes on (like a 2 stroke hit)

most of my friends went to honda thumb throttles
(I think they used trx90) they are longer and the pin is at a better
leverage point

We even did 330feet too and I was in 3rd at 330feet. even at 330feet was the same out come. I now my Quad dont start getting going till 3rd on it pulls like a rapped ape.

660feet is 1/8 mile. I have 15 tooth front sproket with 20s. My buddys said my YFZ450 would do better with 18s on the back.

Reverse robs HP. Its not much but it does. I remember a few years back talking to some serious racers they said dont get something with reverse because it will take away fromtyour power and its true and proven on dyno's

it does not make any sence to buy a ltr to ride trails. wide, small 18" tires and no ground clearence does not make a good trail quad. go with whats proven. trx or yfz. or if u got the loot go with he ktm.

It pulls in all gears but I think it pulls better topend. I spin to much or wheelie off the start. My buddy rode my Quad and he said if I had 18s it would be letal.

Oh by the way I start off in 2nd gear.

http://www.gtthunder.com/trxDynoHp.html

it's talk by itself!

trx FTW!

.9 less peak horse power but hell yeah 3.3ft/lb

just check the curve... it's have wayyyyyyy much tork :p

450rJam

that torque is nice when it comes to putting power to the ground

my old 250r lost alot of power in wheel spin
(but it was still alot of fun)

look how much sooner its hp comes on and keeps climbing
(stock cam isnt much for overrev)
