Tank Paint

What's the best process and best paint to use to paint the tank on my 88 fourtax? It's a metal tank.

regular automotive paint. Prep it good and you should be good to go

I was thinking more along the lines of something I could do myself without a paint gun.
Anything from a can that would look decent?

Do I need to clear over the paint?
