beating 450s

not trying to start a pizzing contest but just wondering how many guys on 400ex are beating the 450s in drag races. i was real close last fall with my 440 but since then ive found out my jetting was way off and got it straightened out. i cant wait til the weather gets better so i can go back out to the dragstrip (dirt) to see how it goes. i would like to know what setups you guys r running and how much your beating them by on avg, also what kinda mods they got

i ride the imperial dunes in california. i used to smoke any 450 that was stock or only piped/jetted UP hill. in a straight line. i could usually take em till around the end of 3rd

440ex
stage 1 hotcam.
450r carb
14/37 gearing
airbox eliminator
lots of weight reduction
and a finely tuned machine

now i ride a cam modded yfz with suspension and smoke them all:devil:

I can do the usual, beat them through 3 gears and thats all. Give the 450r some room to stretch its legs and he will creep right by you. Its going to take some serious power to hang with them at high speeds. With very little work they can hang onto big power much higher in the rpms than we can, plus the fact they are lighter is not helping matters.

If they are .........stock stock, I can take them in a drag all the way the to top with mine. 416 w/ stg 1 hotcam plus 11 herbs and spices (extra crispy). I usually run with them until 4th and that's when I start pulling ahead.

i used to come close to bone stock 450s no pipe nothing. all mine had was K&N and HMF slip on with it jetted dead on.

440 stroker will beat a 450 no doubt.

My brother just has a HMF slip on, K&N and jetted and he will be almost even with the YFZ in a drag until the 400ex hits 5th then the YFZ pulls a little ahead then when it hits the last gear its gone and you are already topped out.

I can beat my buddies bone stock 450r in a drag and all i have is k&n , HMF slip on and one tooth drop sprocket in front. I get him all the way untill forth then he says CYA.

yah proly so, I hardly ever get er topped out, mostly trai riding and occasional 1/8 mile dirt drag for fun. she rips through the woods tho

We have a guy that rides with us that has a 500cc BB kit in his 450r.

He cant ride that great, so I smoke him through all 5 gears.

He bounces the rev limiter before he shifts, so its like taking candy from a baby.

my 440 is nicely built, mind you...but he shoudl still be able to take me on top end...

must have crazy acceleration but top end must be low.

My EX has no problem with lightly modded 450's. Out of the hole, and about dead even on top end. Gearing on mine is stock 15/38.

Haven't fine tuned the 450R carb yet, we'll see what happens once my machine is tuned.

well truth be told i race all my buddies on my 426 and them on their 450r's and yfz's with some mods like high comp. piston pipe, airfilter,few things like that and i have no problem at all smokin their a** lol my bike has the 426 big bore, high comp piston, hotcam, shaved flywheel, cdi box,hinson clutches,wiseco hot rod crank, HD valves and springs, crf450 dirt bike carb, air box lid removed, jetted, TC shorty exhaust, and a few more things but what help mine the most was the crf450 carb. without that it was weak! but that opened it up 125% more seriously.

All I do with my bike is dirt drag 200and 300ft. I have raced alot of 450's with my bike and I can beat about everyone one of them. There have been 2 450 to beat me one was a crf45engine modded on a fourwheeler frame but he has only beagt me once out of about 7 races. The other one is yfz stroked andbored to like a 570 and running nitrous he usually gets me almost everytime but it is a good race. But other than that I have beatin alot of big bore 450's and higly modded ones'
Here is what I have done to my motor
490 stroker motor with a sparks 440 high comp 12:5 to 1 pistion
sparks cam
sparks shorty exhaust x6
Duncan head bigger valves and port and polish
41 lectron carb
20 shot of nitrous but dont nedd it for most 450's
And several little other things done to
It pisses alot of ppl off at the races when a 400ex does good in the 450 modded class.

That's exactly what I was gonna say.I have a pretty much stock yfz.I can beat my buddies 440 most of the time.But he beats other stock yfz's.

He stretched his bike out with a +4 swingarm.He can launch in 2nd gear as hard as he wants and it will stay down.He is beating piped 450r's and even some with motor work done.Running 22 inch tall pro wedges he's getting into the bottom of 4th and ahead of 450r's.

His bike is a 440.11:1 wiseco kit,Local honda shop ported the head,Stage 2 hot cam,Rev box,He just bought a 450r carb setup of a guy on the furom here.So he should be even faster.

He has went through 3 3rd gears now!That is why my motor is staying stock.

I have Beaten 450's even modded one's for the holeshot on my 440EX. Have to agree It's all in the RIDER.

what about suzuki quadracers? Ive never seen one at the drag strip and dont see anyone on this thread talkin bout them. are they about the same as other 450s? they look sweet

ive had one for almost 6 months now and ya all 450's are about the same (speed wise). me and my friends always drag race just for fun and they all have 450s and almost every race from front to back i bet theres a max of 30ft between the 2 at the end thats how close they are. if you want to compare it to other quads on the track the LTR is in a whole different class.
