I have a friends DRR 90 07 he brought me after he said it over heated and quit running. It starts up on the choke and will run then when the choke is off it acts like it is running out of fuel and dies. I thought it was the carb switched and did the same thing. Removed the engine put both crank seals in and removed the cylinder put new base gasket on and honed the cylinder and put new rings in. Reinstalled does the same thing. Has a new intake on it installed after the problem started. Am out of ideas anyone ever run across this issue before. Basically a stock bike.

the first thing i would do would be to remove the gas cap and try starting the bike with out it on. it could be that the cap is not venting like it should. if it is not venting then the bike will run out of fuel. then i would check the gas lines. that is where i would start. thank d

Amen brother Carter! Been there, done that. Also try double grounding the coil. Run a groung wire from the coil to an engine bolt. I've seen people spend hundreds of dollars on carbs, reeds, coils ect. when all it needed was an extra ground. I don't know what the quad overheating would have to do with any of this, but these fix attempts won't cost anything or take much time.

Good Luck.

I'm having the same problem with mine. ecp mini has the bike now. it looks like it may be a leak in the case. they've tried everything, good spark, not a carb problem, it's like it's running lean on the bottom end. wish i had a solution for you

DC I believe has your answer , I had this same problem as well only it was on a bike the breather hose was twisted and pinched off the air causeing a vapor lock... it could be the cap is plugged or not able to breathe

not to far off could be an air leak , pinched hose, thats a tough one being you seem to know alot and have done a bit more than most would have by now..

Dave I believe has the right answer, I have seen it happen time and time again. If it can't vent through the tank it will do this....

Also, keep the breather hose out of the stem. That is a great place for water to collect from washing. Water=Bad.

This may sound funny but have you tried the ignition?

I am a DRX distributor overseas in Guam and I had to replace all the Ignition assemblies on my new 90's and 70's.

When the bike vibrates it makes the key assembly rattle so bad that it goes thru phases of wanting to turn off and on.

my first thought was carb problems, then coil then well you know where that goes.

any how good luck with it.
