i plan on switching to Engine Ice this week but i've never done any kind of service to the cooling system on my quad, so i guess my questions would be where do i drain it, where do i fill it, is there any steps to the process and how much. all of this is for a 2005 TRX 450R

just remove the few bolts that hold the water pump cover onto the engine. let it all drain from there and fill it back up at the top of the radiator. youll only need one half gallon jug to fill it up.
and dont forget add the engine ice full strength, do not mix it with water.

There is a drain bolt on the water pump. It is the lowest one. It is the only bolt on the water pump that has a sealing washer on it. Do not open the radiator cap yet. Take the drain bolt out. A little coolant will come out. Get a milk jug and put it right up against the hole. Then take off the radiator cap. It will come gushing out. Next unbolt the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat. There is an oring on the housing that can be reused. Put the housing back on, leaving the thermostat out. Put the drain bolt back it. Now fill the quad with a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar. Run the quad for a few minutes then drain it. Do that twice. Then once with straight water. Now put the thermostat back in and fill with Engine Ice. You fill it at the radiator cap.

It cleans out all the old coolant. I got those instructions right from Engine Ice.

Hah i never did that. I switched from antifreeze to engine ice almost right away when i first got my 450R in august 05. Been 2 1/2 years and not one problem. I didnt know they had instructions for flushing out the old stuff lol.

Engine Ice is great stuff we use it in all our liquid cooled machines!

where exactly is the thermostat at?

The thermostat is where the upper radiator hose connects to the head of the engine. There are 3 bolts that require an 8mm to remove.

The vineger is to break down any calcium build up from hard water. If used a good premix soultion prior to engine ice it should of not have left any deposites. although its still a good idea to do it, I think twice is a little excessive though.

what is the wire that attaches to that sensor or whatever it is there. i saw today that wire is broken off. im guessing if the thermostat is there then maybe that is the wire for the temp light?
