starter not working just clicking

my starter won't turn it just clicks like its not getting power, but my headlights still work.....any ideas:confused:

I am not sure maybe the battery doesnt have enough juice my friend has a big bear and his starter wouldnt work it just clicked and his lights still came on and we charged up his battery and it worked fine but we didnt charge it at the house i thik we took it to the honda shop and they did somethin to it

thanks;) all I did was tap on the starter cover with a hammer and it fired right up! what do I need to buy to prevent this from happening again?

other things can be messed up- also you get little dings on it -
take your starter off --and it come into 3 pieces-if it's like the 3 hunded- take it off and pull it appart- look at one end-the opposite end of the gear- look at the brushes- they may be worn- if so- take it to a starter shop and get new brushes- should be cheeper to buy the brushes and do it your self-
i should have- then reinstal and go....

if this is the prob...
