:( Tryed lubing the cable, took out the small spring in the thumb cassing and lubing lincage in carb. Little better, but not much.

Im I just being a b*tch, or is this a commun problem with the 400ex(this is my first ATV).

Buddys ltr450 and z400 and much softer.

any ideas

I dont think the 400ex throttle is stiff at all. I dare ya to try and ride a banshee with a thumb throttle for 10 minutes. Man those things because you have to push to carbs is like you need to use your fist.

pull cable out of lever then you can lift up spray wd in then tie it up in air over night,or spend 20bucks and get new one. And your a new rider the thumb gonna hurt till you build up strengh in it.

I say just get a new cable instead of lubing the old one

:huh cable is fine. I pulled it out and its very smooth. Its like the springs on the carb are too hard.....

Its not just me,when someone else take my ride after 5-10min they cant ride it anymore because of thumb cramps

Well, if all else fails you could always get a 450r carb. That'll make the thumb throttle softer.:p

Try replacing the carb spring with a Tokyo Mod spring. It mounts up kinda funny but it made a world of difference for me.

Try cleaning and lubing the slide on the carb. Mine kinda started to stick one time making it harder to operate.

check at your local dealer about one. i, like you, took the little spring out of my throttle and it comes back just fine. i don't have the stock carb so you might want to check first. they are about 35 bucks. i race and my throttle was giving me some serious arm pump until i put one in mine. good luck!

Well I called up the people at Tokyomods and was told that the throttle carb spring is no good for the 400ex carb. So I guess that option is no good:( .

That sucks!! I can't think of anything else without buying a new carb. good luck though.

Look into a thumb throttle extender..They make it longer so it gives you more leverage and makes it easier to work

this is the best thing to do. take off your side carb cover and get a long screwdriver. the spring is very tight and the arm is stamped on so it cant be taken off. i just pryed the spring away fron the carb where it rest and let it spring to the next location. its about 1/2 way around. it is much better you could prob go more and still have pleanty of return spring. it worked great for me. :blah:

mines medium.. its on the smoother side but its not as smooth as some utes ive ridden, but its def. not as hard as some other quads ive ridden

after you use it for awile your thumb will become a lot stronger and you won't even notice it

Mr. sc400ex_rider, thanks for the advice.

I'll try that, hope the spring wont come out on me :eek2:

so I just pop it out of its groove and let it go till it hits an other one by its self. Right????

Just wanna be sure before I go play in the. I have stayed as far away as possible from car work, dont know much about them.

hi, no it cant come off its kinda made onto it. you will be suprised how taught the spring is. back it off some and it makes a world of difference. yes just let it rotate around 1/2 to 1 turn. free mods are the best.

Alot of GNCC guys use trx90 levers on their 450's and 400ex's. they are longer and allows you to have more leverage and makes
it easier to push. :D
