I will have a week or two of down time and i was considering sending my cylinder out and getting bored. There is nothing wrong with mine current set up i just want more power and thought of going bigger with more compression. In my area race gas is easy to come by and the fun factor far outweighs the cost factor. So i was thinking of a 426 in the 12-12.5:1 range. I currently have an 11:1 stock bore. Are the gains going to be noticeable and will i hurt the stock rod.

Stock is 9.1:1 or something like that. I dont know why so many say its 10:1. I had the 12.5:1 in my 416 with no problem. The only thing you might want to seriously consider are some hd head studs. I did have mine pull out after a few months.

the studs are $60 from gt thunder and a roll form tap is around $20. Im sure you could use a regular tap, but a roll form makes stronger threads since it doesnt cut away any metal. The main stud to watch for is the one on the front where the exhaust valves are since it get the hottest. Thats the one I had problems with.

Thats up to you. You may not ever have a problem with it. It doesnt hurt anything to wait, it just makes it easier since its already apart. You can also put a heli coil in that one. That would give the stud more bite than just the stud alone. Thats what i did to fix mine. I didnt get the hd studs till I made mine a stroker.

im running 11:1 now and i want more compression. Everything is holding up fine now but i want to go bigger. Im thinking 12:1 minimum.
