I'm looking to move some stuff that's been collecting dust. Here's a 90% stock 1988 FourTrax 250R that's been in storage since Oct. 2003. I'm the second owner and I have the manual, title from the previous owner, brochure, even a honda bag that came with the bike. It's on the original bore and is pretty much stock except for the handlebars, silencer and a twist throttle (I have stock replacements that I'll include). The bike is basically mint and as you know, these are tough to find these days. It hasn't been restored; it's all original. I thought I would check interest here before I put it officially in the for sale section. I'm looking for what I paid for it - $4,700. The pics say it all, but email me at smlhrrs@aol.com if you have any questions. Bike is near Richmond, VA. Sorry no trades!

Thanks, I hate to part with this stuff, but they've just been collecting dust. I hope whoever picks up the 88 keeps it stock.

No problem about the compliments. Its well deserved. Id hate to see that R get taken from its bone stock form. That should be in a collection. Anyways really nice job from holding yourself back from modifying it. Well i guess you didnt really have to when you had that lobo chassis. You ever build it up or just bought it the way it sits?

Thanks. I agree that the R should be left as is. I bought it with the intention of putting it back to 100% original form, but I never took the time. I've never done anything with the lobo; I was planning on building an R but it never got off the ground.

Yeh man that is really nice. Even the plastic looks mint.

I would say put some simple green on the carb let it sit then spray it off. LoL. That pisses me off on my 250r when my carb gets dirty.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice quad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this bike. What should I ask for something like this? I paid $4,700, but that must be high in todays market.

I'm sure you know this already and I don't know when you bought it; but there seems to be a period of a few years where 250R's were going for ridiculous prices, so if you got in at the peak just before the 450's came out, you will ultimately lose because the prices ie demand has gone down.

For most people a mint stock 250r is still a 20 year old quad and they can't justify spending the equivalent of a brand new machine. Mint 250R's have become a very niche market where you can fetch a good price for them if you get the right buyer, but they are few and far between.

I'd say yours is still worth $4000. You're best bet is to try ebay and be willing to ship. Put a reserve on it and be willing to list it a couple times spread out through a couple months, that way you have a better shot at finding someone that is interested and may even be willing to shell out $5-6K for it.

As far as I can tell, you've been around 250R's enough but if it were my machine and I was trying to get absolute top dollar for it.

Recomendations : Take off the stickers on the rad shroud, put stock handlebars back on, peel off the rear fender number plates and get some replacements (even if not original) to clean it up
put the thumb throttle back on then clean it as best as possible and armourall it up for a nice shine.
