Not sure how 450r stock shocks would do but I got some revalves on mine and they ride awsome. I cant wait to try em in a race in a couple of weeks!!

I noticed that a lot of you guys run nerfs for XC. I had them but took them off and sold them because all they did was catch on hold onto mud. Nobody else has that problem?

NJ450rider
02-16-2008, 09:30 AM
Yeah they do hold mud. But to be honest it doesnt bother me till im done riding. Washing all the mud out is a pain. I really wish Rath made there nerfs for the 400ex. There would be plenty of buyers to justify it. Even in super muddy conditions the rath nerfs/net heel guards never get full of mud. And all theyd have to do is change the front frame attachment for the nerfs to go around the oil tank. and change where the heel guards mount onto the subframe. I have test fitted my rath nerfs off my 450r on my 400ex and it all bolts up/lines up fine just gotta make those two minor adjustments. someday when i got free time and extra cash lying around i plan on retro fitting a set of rath nerfs on my 400ex. there worth the effort to make them fit!!!

man nerf bars are so important. When flyin in the trails I can feel and hear sticks and rocks hitting my nerf bars. Sometimes I'll get a stick to go up through the nets but still if you get mud on your pegs and slip right off having nerf bars will save you there. Idk how you guys can ride XC without nerfs

TRXRacer1

You mentioned sticks and that was another reason I got rid of the nerfs. They tend to trap that crap like fishing nets at times. Also if you're running in some really knarly stuff they can hang up on rocks, roots and stumps. I just see them as a disadvantage more then anything in the woods. To be honest I've never had a problem with my feet slipping off and mud never builds up in the pegs really because you're constantly mashing it with your feet. The only time I have a problem with foot grip is in the winter when ice is building up. Maybe I have better then average foot control because I started on bikes and trikes but I see no need for nets under my feet. I do run heal guards though because they're small and do close the gap between your fender and pegs. I know it all comes down to personal preference but I just don't see it.

Without them my back tire would've caught on, but instead the nerfs just glance off them.
You oughta see how many marks I've got on my bars.

Mine were too but are you guys really getting into that many situations where you'd hang your rear tire without them or you you just glancing off trees and what not?

I know I've posted most of these before, but what the hell, here they are again. I'm mostly stock, and I now have nerfs since the last pics were taken. No more racing for me til I'm out of the ploice academy. Then it's ON!!

Most of mine happens in the real tight and technical stuff, on turns that you whip the back end around to get thru. Sometimes it slings around a lil too much...:o

I've been reading the nerf bar fight, and I just have to put my opinion in.

I HATE nerf bars. They smack against trees, add weight, catch sticks, make shifting harder, and turn your quad into a giant see-saw on mounds.

While I understand your point, and used to agree, but at my last race I hit both of my legs with the pegs when I slipped off of then and planted a foot on the ground. I have nerfs now.

EDIT: FYI I'm not trying to lead an anti-nerf protest here or anything. If you like them then that's cool. I'm just enjoying the different sides of the conversation.

I just got a 416EX and ran my first XC race. The quad ran great exept for sucking in some water because I was dumb....

Not going to take the time to read this whole thread and see if anyone brought it up but PRM makes solid aluminum nerf bars with only small holes in them. I don't use them cause I use my 400ex for MX but I've seen them used on really rocky stuff and they just glide over the top of sharp rocks. Seems like it would be worth the protection and they'd block water and mud out too.
